Aximsiteactivesyncicon downloading a zip file from desktop
I am a newbie. This is a newbie problem. Some files seem to automatically go to the installation wizard and then into my Axim X51, but I am having problems getting other files (particullarly zip files) on my desktop into my Axim. How do I do this? Any help would be appreciated.

Are these program installation files? If so, just unzip them on your desktop then copy the CAB or .exe file over to your Axim using the Explore function in ActiveSync. You can run/install them directly from your Axim. (Most likely these are .exe files which contain the entire program, or CAB files which contain the installers for the program.)
