Windows Mobile Device Center to replace ActiveSync
ActiveSync, the software that syncs data between mobile devices running on the Pocket PC platform and the Windows OS, will be replaced by the Windows Mobile Device Center in tandem with Windows Vista. The new Windows Mobile Device Center will take after Windows Vista in terms of styling and functionality, such as browsing device content, desktop pass-through and other connectivity options.
YAY... now we all should be able to plug our pocket pc'\s into any windwos machine without having to download nad install activesync onto it or use a card reader etc...
Finally, theyve had wm for how long. You think this would have been in xp. I hate having to install as on pcs. Now whenever i see an open usb port on a vista pc, ill just plug in my axim. The only problem is how is it going to be compatible with programs that use as. EX: activeprint, dotpocket, etc.

Call me a cynic. I am not really up for a working version of activesync that requires me to install a buggy OS. I would rather stick with the devil I know. I would even more prefer a Windows XP patch that puts this new windows mobile device center capability into XP.
Ultimately I sync with a corporate computer so I won't be able to use this panacea until my company decides to upgrade to the Vista OS.
Yeah I think activesync is going to be better as it focuses on pocket pcs. This mobile thing will probably have a broad range of devices like pocket pcs, mp3 players, ultra mobile pcs, etc. Less specialized, more buggy.
Plus I only sync with 2 pc's. I don't want my private data on any more computers. You can always copy directly to the SD card anyways.

I guess in my haste I called it Device Manager instead of Device Center in the title.
