Corporate firewall won't let Activesync connect

Hi. I have an Axim x51v that syncs just fine at home. I need to get it connected to my laptop at work, and am having trouble. I'm using USB, but can't connect. The theory is that I'm being blocked by my corporate firewall or virus scanner or network connections manager or VPN software. We use Checkpoint products here. I've disabled (I think) my VPN, and my virus scaner (Symantec Anti Virus Corporate Edition) but still can't get through. Any ideas about how to proceed? Thanks!

John.

Disconnect your firewall (exit, close) and restart activesynch.

I had the same issue with my laptop connected at work.
We have sygate firewall but not the full version which allows you to have multiple rules but only one. And, of course, the rule allocation is already been taken by the IT for the network system.

Since I cannot add a new rule for the Activesync, it does not want to synch.

I have to completely exit the sygate softare (no firewall on my laptop) for my Axim to synch on my PC.

Its not too bad since the cie has an other firewall on the network that controls internet access.

Thanks! I tried, but no luck. I think there may be components of the firewall that I can't see running in my system tray. Any experience with looking at a list of Task Manager processes and figuring out what's running?

I Googled all of these things, plus one more I found later. 4 were related to my firewall or VPN, and I couldn't kill them, so I renamed them and rebooted, then shut everything down through Task Manager again. Got down to 18 processes. Still no connection. I'm out of ideas, for now. Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks.

If you look at Microsoft's ActiveSync pages they have directions for what ports to open for various firewalls. It isn't a problem with Norton Anti-Virus or VPN software. Window's built in firewall generally works without modification, but you might look at the settings and see if there is an exception for active sync. Most corporations don't put a firewall on the laptop, they use one between the internet router and the LAN. AS 4 creates a new network connection, you may have to be administrator of your laptop to allow that to be created. There are also policies that your IT dept can enforce on your machine that will stop it. The best thing is to contact your local help desk and ask them. Hope this helps!

Many corporations do not allow devices that were not provided by the company to be connected into their networks and enforce this policy. You may want to be certain that what you intend to do is not a condition of employment before making further attempts to circumvent these enforcement settings on the company-supplied laptop.

Make sure your firewall allow ActiveSync to use TCP/IP.

ActiveSync depends on these 4 services:
• WCESCOMM.EXE
• WCESMGR.EXE
• RAPIMGR.EXE
• CEAPPMGR.EXE

RAPIMGR.EXE and CEAPPMGR.EXE are missing from your list.

Make sure they are available & your firewall allow these services.

I am having the same problem. They have blocked me using one or all of

Wfirewall, McAfee, and Group policies. I am out of ideas and they will not unlock it or offer support. Is there any other way to sync calendar, tasks, contacts (everything except email) aside from exporting the them to a .csv and sync-ing at home? That is a bothersome routine!

Thanks,

-A
