It's not that I like or don't like AS (though it can be a pain in the rear at times!). It seems to be a necessary evil if I want to trade information between my Axim and my laptop. Would be fine with me if I could do that without AS, as long as I can still exchange info with my big computer.

I use ActiveSync between my work PC and my home. I TOTALLY depend on having my calender and contacts consistent and current between all 3 devices. As others have said, I like being able to pick up and go rather than remember if I have recently sync'd and I like not having to worry about losing contact with people that I've made meetings with at work (most of the time) when I sync to my home PC.

That said, it seemed that my PALM was more stable and transparent as to which platform overwrote.

When I transitioned originally from Palm, I thought AS 3.7.1 rocked! It was fast and mostly "dummy-proof". Now that I have to use AS 4.x, and find it to be a DOG! It is S-L-O-W and finicky. Most people want to rant about WM5, but it's mostly OK as far as I am concerned. I have been most displeased with the new ActiveSync that has to be teamed with the new OS. I just seems like we took a big step backward.

Personally I prefer to just put the files on my SD card. That said, I don't use outlook much and I have a POP3 email so really I don't have a need to sync. Except for those ridiculous installers...

Well we can only hope that the integrated mobile device manager on Vista will be better than activesync.

Activesync does what it is meant to do, and I have no complaints abou it, but there are other ways to access email and install apps. For calendar, contacts etc. its fine
