syncing multiple devices
My business is cell phones and while I love my Axim x30, since I'm already familiar with Pocket PCs, my company just gave me the new T-Mobile MDA running Windows Mobile 2005 to play with. I need to be able to sync this device to my computer as well as my Axim.
But I don't know how. The Axim syncs fine and I have no problem with it but every time I plug in the MDA, Activesync won't connect. I've heard that you can setup multiple devices on a single PC but I can't figure out how to do it. Do I have to delete my old partnership to setup a new one? Will that mean I have to delete my old partnership every time I want to sync each of the devices? Can anyone HELP!!! ![]()

ActiveSync will recognize multiple devices just fine. The first key to know is that it won't do this simultaneously. Meaning, you have to disconnect one, and then connect the other. I do this on a daily basis and have very few problems with it. If you attempt to connect multiple devices at the same time, it will simply ignore any device after the first one. Trust me, I tried.

So you mean I need to physically remove the first USB connection? I'm not trying to sync them simultaneously but I do have the Axim cradle linked to one USB port and the MDA to another. Activesync says it's connecting to the MDA but never does. And it doesn't ask me for a device name either.

I am plugging only one in at a time. But AS doesn't see the MDA though it tries to connect. And it's not asking me for another name. Do I have to physically remove the USB connection for the Axim to get it to work?

It should 'Just work', or at least it 'just worked' for me. nothing extra to configure at all
maybe instead of the '2 device sync problem' you have a 'can't sync my mda problem' btw i'm assuming you have AS4.1 installed as the mda is wm5

Yes, I'm using AS4.1 and it works great with my Windows Mobile 2003. But it's the MDA running Windows Mobile 2005 that just refuses to sync. Still waiting to see if anyone has an idea on how to fix this.
Please? | |||||

Okay, I completely removed the Axim from the computer and put the MDA in the USB port the Axim was using. My compuer found the hardware and installed the device drivers. But Activesync is still sitting there "Connecting..." and isn't even trying to setup another partnership. I really don't want to have to delete the existing partnership but... I thought Activesync could handle more than one device on the same PC. If it can't, is there another sync software I can use in it's place? I really need to be able to sync both the x30 and the MDA, though not at the same time, of course. One at a time would be nice. HELP!!!!

Well if anyone is interested, I got the answer.
AS 4.1 getting stuck on connecting is usually due to firewall, VPN, or other such software.I'm just glad I got it working now. Apparently my Zone Alarm was stopping the connection. Now to figure out how to keep ZA and the sync at the same time.

Sorry it took me a while to get back. I see you've resolved most of your problems, so I'll just try to help clarify some things.
ActiveSync 4.1 allows connections between 2003 and WM5.0 and works relatively fine. The couple of catches with this is: First, only one device may be connected to the USB ports at a time. Which was part of the problem Michele was running into. Secondly, I've found that apparently Axims hate USB hubs. I have had nothing but trouble when I plug it into any hub, but works fine when plugged directly into the USB port itself. The problems were things like AS losing the connection randomly, and never detecting the device, and just random ugliness. Finally, for Michele, if you can figure out how to tell ZA to not block the port mentioned in the post you quoted, it should work after that.
