Aximsitebluetoothicon Bluetooth-Activesync Reward

I think a reward should be set up for the person who can successfully (read, can be duplicated by the rest of us numbskulls) that will once and for all allow an x51/x51v to sync with bluetooth. I'm sick of that little, useless blue light blinking at me!! Maybe it can be set up as the next X prize. Although a private spacecraft project is easier money, it seems.

So, lets set up the paypal donations. Dell and Microsoft employees are even eligible to enter the contest, but I don't think they'll be the ones to collect.

huh? Am I missing something? I have been active sync'ing with bluetooth for weeks without problems. Default MS stack..nothing needs to be changed.

Just look at the bluetooth tutorial and follow the steps...

Wow, I didn't even use the tutorial, and this is the first Windows Mobile device I've owned. Had it syncing via BT within a minute or two.

I think what's counterintuitive is that you need to start the sync from the PDA, and not from your desktop/laptop. The software pretty much holds your hand through the rest of the process.

If I supply the link to BT syncing tutorial, could I have $20?
An (X) in my post denotes a wireless post from my Axim.

I don't know why there is so much confusion of the BT stuff. It works quite well. Okay so IR just works and BT requires some fumbling. But I believe the fumbling has to do with Activesync not the x51v or bluetooth. I believe this because transfering files via bt is a snap/no brainer. Ever since the old modem days the thought of searching com ports gives me the chills.

The trick is to use "0000" as your keypass when pairing with your bluetooth receiver. At least that's what worked for me.
Important safety tip: Don't cross the streams.

I am a newbie to BT and I got it working OK. I uninstalled the software that came with my dongle (it seemed to confuse my PC) and I am using the default BT that comes with Windows XP.

Bluetooth Blues

Step 3 of that tutorial states:

"Open up the Bluetooth Manager on the PDA and tap New. Select 'Activesync via Bluetooth' and tap Next"

My question is, what does one do if "Activesync via Bluetooth" is not listed as an option? Even after tapping "New Partnership", I can not get "ActiveSync via Bluetooth" to appear on my Axim Bluetooth manager. Even on my XP laptop, when I look under Bluetooth Services, Activesync is not listed as an available service. I DO have Activesync 4.1 running on my computer and can sync via USB.

Sure - when everything goes like the tutorial says, then it must be easy. What about when something unexpected happens?

1) you have to make a New BT Serial com port on the PC.
2) You have to get activesycn on the PC to recognise that particular com port is for it. You can't set it, Activsync has to "find" it. which it wont until:
3) Activesync on the Axim select connect with BT you must.
4) Once PC Activesync finds which BT comport to use the comport name will be changed to Activesync. Only then will activesync appear as a service on the Axim, but by then you don't care because it works.
