That didn't help any as AVG doesn't have Medium or High settings. Its a little more advanced than that.

A lot will depend on the firewall and your situation. If you have a home network then you don't need a firewall on your PC, it will be in the cable/dsl router. If you connect directly to the internet or are in a college then you need a firewall. I have eTrust EZ Firewall. Not because its good but the cable company gives it to me. It has two settings Intranet and Trusted Network. When I furst connected the axim it poped up saying a new network was discovered and I cliced Trust this network so the Axim is on the trusted network. No help huh. well on a previous firewall I simply added activsync as a program that had access to my computer and that worked just fine. On a regular windows XP SP2 fire wall There should be four activesync services in the exceptions: Activesync application, activesync Connection Manager, Activesync RAPI manager, and Activesync Service.

Well, seeing as one should always have hardware firewall and a software firewall installed, regardless of what they are doing, then I'm going ignore the frist part of your post. However, I will look into the networking set up. It could be that my firewall isn't allowing it to creat a network.

*To save yourself aggrevation pause for a couple seconds before you click [Apply] after making changes, if you don't sometimes itll throw a strange non fatal error and clear the changes you just made arghh...
Step 1: Once in Firewall configuration goto [System] tab. Click on [Services..]. Click on [Add Item]. Call it ActiveSyncSrv Enter the following Service Items: Direction | Protocol | Local Ports | Remote Ports In ______ TCP ____ 990 ______ all ports In ______ TCP ____ 999 ______ all ports In ______ TCP ____ 5678 _____ all ports In ______ TCP ____ 5679 _____ all ports In ______ TCP ____ 5721 _____ all ports In ______ TCP ____ 26675 ____ all ports In ______ TCP ____ 990 ______ all ports In ______ UDP ____ all ports ___ 5679 Click [OK]. Step 2: While still Under [System] tab click [Add Rule]. Call it ActiveSync, Click [Create Rule], add the ActiveSyncSrv under Available Services (which u just made above) to Applied Services with the Action set to ALLOW. Click [OK]. Click [OK] again. pause.... Click [Apply]. Step 3: ....Getting Dizzy yet? Goto [Applications] tab. Click [Add Application]. Click on [...] button. Navigate to: C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\rapimgr.exe Make sure Action is set to ALLOW . Click [OK]. pause.... Click [Apply]. Do the same steps for the following programs: C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\wcescomm.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\WCESMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\CEAPPMGR.EXE Just to be thorough there is another way to do this, slightly more automated but it erases any manual changes you have made before trying it. If your that interested just ask. | |||

update: it seems as though the latest version of AVG firewall (pro) includes a prebuilt service for activesync that works
