Worried New Computer, Old Axim: Active Sync HELL

Long story short:

Upgraded to a Dell M70 and loaded my Active Sync 4.1 software from the disc that came with my Axim X51v with no problem.

My problem is that while Windows can 'see' my Axim, AS cannot. What gives?

My old machine (Dell M60) had to problem. All my firewalls are disabled and I have reloaded AS seven or eight times.

I am using 'known good' USB ports and I am getting frustrated.

Any ideas? Do Ineed to change somehting on my Axim for it to be compatible with the mew computer?

Please assist if you can.

So your old computer had the problem too? Perhaps it has something to do with your axim and not the computer.

No... Old computer was fine.

I cannot seem to create a partnership with this new computer. Is my Axim looking for teh old partnership from the old computer? Can I delete the partnership from my Axim?

the partnerships are stored on the host computer, not on the axim device itself.

try an older version of activesync, such as 3.8, available here

see if that corrects the issue.

It should just create a new partnership for you new computer. Did you try disabling all firewall in the computer including the windows xp firewall?

The XP Firewall? Is this a different program other than the Firewall that comes with X ervice Pack 2?

This is the ONLY firewall on the machine and it has been turned OFF.

Will the X51v work with Active Sync 3.8? I sure appreciate you guys taking time out to assist me with this issue.

I have a hard time believing that I'm screwing it up because I've installed AS about a dozen times for other people over the last year or so.

I just don't know why my Dell M70 running XP SP2 with ALL the updates and the windows Firewall turned OFF would keep my Axim from creating a partnership.

I get the 'tone' and balloons telling me that Windows has found my device and that it is ready to use, but Active Sync cannot see it via the USB or the Bluetooth option.

AARRRGGGHHHH....

It really sounds like some sort of software conflict. Try using selective start up, by using start->run msconfig then turn off all programs that auto start except activesync.

FIXED IT!!!

Turns out I had to go to my NETWORK PLACES and find the 'Local Area Connection' that my Axim had created. Then I had to go to into PROPERTIES for the connection and place a CHECK MARK in the TCP/IP box.

Once that was accomplished, the Axim sysnc'd to the computer with no problem.

WOO HOO!!!
