Activesync BT only syncs once then dies

Hi,
It seems some have no troubles at all with bluetooth Activesync while others are pulling their hair out. Unfortunately I'm one of the latter.

I've tried a few different versions of Activesync and all have exhibited the same condition. I've currently settled on the 4.2 beta which seems fairly stable. I have also followed all tutorials and any recommendations I have found on the site. Although I haven't changed the BT stack on the Axim.

I can sync via USB any time, when I switch to BT it syncs completely the first time then disconnects. Once disconnected I can only reconnect after re-establishing the pairing. I get an error in the Axim Activesync log about "Port not available: Cannot start communications with the desktop computer".

I am using 1.4.3.4 widcomm driver on the desktop. I haven't tried the Microsoft BT driver as I can't seem to locate one? Has anyone had similar issues or advice on this problem? Any help appreciated.
Regards,
John.

Thanks for the advice but when I uninstall the widcomm driver XP cannot find a suitable replacement. I am running SP2 too. Even if I select update driver and search for compatible drivers I can't locate a Microsoft driver!
Please help!!

BT ActiveSync

Hi there

Afraid for me it was a case of "if it isn't broke, don't fix it!"....except that I did just that!!!

I thought I'd get a bluetooth PCMCIA card so that I could get back one of my USB ports - I had a bluetooth USB dongle - everything worked just fine with that.

Anyway, when I installed the BT card, the software removed all existing BT devices and although I can get my Nokia 6230i to communicate with my laptop, my Dell is having none of it!!

It appears the main reason is because the COM port number available on my laptop is now up at 22 & 23!! I've done all the stuff about seeing "hidden devices" and removing unwanted COM ports, but unfortunately, since I installed this BT card, no other ports even show up to delete!!??

So it would appear that ActiveSync will only see COM 4 and my Axim 7 & 8....it seems that I can't change my laptop's COM port number to match. I did see somewhere that you can remove the WIDDCOMM bluetooth driver (which is what I am using on my laptop), and revert back to the Windows driver so that you can change the COM port number.

I'm really cheesed off with this - shouldn't have fiddled around with it in the first place, but it seemed a really good move to try and free up a USB port!

If anyone else has any further thoughts on how to go about this, I'd be really grateful!!.....will post back if I get any further with it!

BTW, I've just installed ActiveSync 4 too, seems OK at the moment!

Chris.

Activesync BT syncs only once

I have sorted out my original issue with BT syncing once. Thinking it had something to do with the widcomm driver I've hacked several different versions and even used the MS drivers to no avail. It ended up being a certain file I was syncing! If I skip file syncing it works fine and stays connected all day. I'm glad this is all sorted. In hindsight I should have synced minimally in the first place! NEver mind I'm happy!

In regards to com ports I think the 4.2 activesync allows bt ports above 9? If it doesn't I'd try deleting the existing bt ports and doing a scan for new hardware. Hopefully it may find more appropriate port allocations. If you are using XP pro I would recommend you create system restore points before mucking around with your config. This way you can easily revert back to a working config should something go wrong.

Cheers,
John.
