How I got my X51v to bt Activesync

I have an Axim X51v with ROM A01 with the MS bt stack.

On one PC I installed a Kensengton BT dongle and it worked perfectly the first time, everytime. Windows XP Pro, SP2, Activesync 4.1, Widcom driver 1.4.2.8.

On a different PC I installed a belkin BT Dongle, XP Pro, SP2, ActiveSync 4.1 and Widcom driver 1.4.2.8 (from belkin CD). I could not get this to work on 3 different PCs. I spent about 24 hours trying to figure out how to get the belkin equipped PC to work. Well I did and here is what I had to do.

The Problem - Cable Activesync works just fine. Add Belkin BT Dongle and the PC ActiveSync can not find the axim, When starting AS on the axim the only service that is shown for the PC is a serial port and it will not connect.

Starting point. Dongle installed and supplied CD installed. ActiveSync 4.1 installed. Axim has been syncing via USB cable - Don't think this matters but I list it because it was for me. Axim BT is OFF.

1)On the PC return all Bluetooth settings to origingal. If you added ANY serial ports both incomming and outgoing delete them. I know the XP instructions say to add a com port, but when I tried to repeat this procedure with an added com port it would not work. Also when I used the kensengton dongle it attached ActiveSync to the lowest (default) com port and automatically renamed it ActiveSync. So that is wht we are going to do.

2) From XP "Start" button select Run. In the Run box enter Regedit and select OK. We are going to change the name of the BT com port to ActiveSync using the registry editor. Be Careful when editing the registry. Make sure you have back ups and know how to restore previous Registry............

3) Follow this or a simular Path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> WIDCOM ->BtConfig -> Services -> 0001. Click on the 0001 and a list of settings will appear in the right window. Check the Name it should be the Serial Port service. If it is not find the Serial Port Service. Note but do not change the ComPortNumber. Mine is 3. AUTO should be (1) - if not Click on the word AUTO and then enter a 1 in the data field of the pop up. Finnaly click on the Name and enter ActiveSync as the data. One word, Capital A and S as shown ActiveSync.

4) Close regedit and reboot. There is no save.

5) After Rebooting open Activesync on the PC. Open File -> Connection Settings and check "Allow connections to one of the following" Then select the port you just renamed. For me it was COM 3 and press OK. According to the documentation this is how you select which port ActiveSync will use. Do not press connect - that will not work. We are not done yet!.

6)On the PC make sure that BT is ON and that it is discoverable.

7) Start up the Axim and select Active Sync and connect via bt. It may just work now if not it say it cannot find a proper device. When it does select Yes.

8)Search for the PC, then discover the services. It should find One called ActiveSync. Check the box and finish. Go back to ActiveSync on the axim and select sync via bt. The PC will report that somebody is attempting to use the Active Sync service on this PC. Click to enable. Enter your Passkey and sync away.....

Always start the sync process from the Axim. Attempting to establish the connection and sync from the PC (via bluetooth) will fail.

I also have a Belkin BT dongle and have been changing incoming and outgoing serial port numbers for weeks with no success. I am a bit wary about editing the registry but if it is going to work I will probably give it a try.
Will it still allow synching via cable and IR or is it BT only.
I have absolutely no idea how you could have come up with this solution.

The usb cable still syncs fine. I only have IR on my wifes laptop which also has the kensengton dongle. On it the service is already named ActiveSync. She gets upset if I mess with her laptop much......

The cool thing about the belkin dongle is XP SP2 has support for it. You can just plug it in to the usb port and MS drivers will be loaded. That means you can use a belkin dongle and a X51v like a jump drive without adding software to the PC. (Which I am forbidden to do to the development systems here). This does not work with the Kensengton donge - no SP2 support.

However, I the belikn dongle wold not activesync with the XP SP2 BT support. Looks like the same problem and I have not found the Microsoft BT Service registry settings yet. I will have to sneaker net a copy of activesync onto a development system when the Corp Control guys are not looking.

Do you have selected in as witch port may be used. I had to select com port 3 for my bluetooth connection. After that make a pairing and it will see as.

Open as en go to file>connectionsettings >select allow connections then select wich youre bluetooth com port is.

!!Before connectionsettings is opened by my computer i am 5 minutes further. !!

Hope this works for you

Yes, Its been a while but on the laptop I did. I remember because meinisys called me on having it and I had to prove to myself that it only worked while activesync was active.

Corp Controll has locked down that capability on my work PC and I can not share my desktop internet access, even with the USB cable.

On a differnt PC at home I did get one chance to try since fixing activesync and it reported confilicting IP addresses. Which I remember seeing before with the laptop. I am sure I can get past that, I know I did once before.
