Question Pocket PC Networking error

Just recently I have started getting an error message that states -

:exc: Unable to obtain a server assigned IP address. Try again later or enter an IP address in Network settings.

This happens every time I put my ax in the cradle........I don't have any problem accessing the network to surf the internet when it's not in the cradle...... Just wondering what I've messed up
Thanks in advance

Cradled "Networking"

When you place your Axim in the cradle, and the cable is plugged into your PC, ActiveSync establishes a network connection that uses your PC as a router.

You can see this happen by using the ADVANCED tab in the Dell Wireless Utility program, which displays your IP address.

While wireless, you have an address that is assigned by a device on the wireless network. When cradled, your Axim is assigned another address, as it is assumed that you will use the attached PC for your Interent connection.

I am of course, assuming that the PC to which your Axim is cradled has an Interent connection.

If you have a software/personal firewall, it may be blocking your Axim from getting the address it is expecting. Try disabling the firewall long enought to see if this fixes the problem. If so, you will need to explicitly allow the ActiveSync applications to act as a server. Remember that Windows XP SP2 now includes a firewall that disables most services by default.

You should see Microsoft's ActiveSync troubleshooting guide to assist you with enabling the correct programs.

If disabling the firewall or other Internet security program does not fix the problem, tell us, and we can help you try something else.

Good Luck! :approve:

Tried the suggestions @ MS....all the firewall settings are like they should be..........This just recently started happening......None of the network adapters have any information in them.......it's just annoying for something to be out of whack.......

I am having the same problem out of the blue! Last time I was able to sync was Tuesday. I've reconfigured my McAfee firewall-again. I even tried turing it off. I tried disabling wireless on my pc. (I use a laptop connected to home wireless network.) I've "repaired" the network settings and activesync. Nothing has worked. I think a setting has some how changed because today I can't even print to our wireless equiped printer from my laptop, but can from hubby's desktop. Geez!

I have this same problem, no solution yet. Cant connect to the internet via active sync and get that error every time. It started happening after I touched somthing under network adaptors... anyway to reset the defaults on that?

I just recently upgraded to a new AMD Athlon system, and it runs WXP Home with SP2. I have been getting the same error, and cannot yet resolve the mattter...I also cannot get email to work or reliably get to the internet. I am going to try the firewall changes and see if that helps

Somehow in the process of rebuilding my system, I somehow managed to mangle the WEP key on the Axim....and when checking the router config for the umteenth time, discovered that I probably entered the code incorrectly....so of course the axim could not connect ! So, to all the newbies out there.....just stay with it, be methodical, read IkeHiker's guides at least 4 times and keep it all in perspective! I am not a stranger to technology, yet there are so darned many details that it can boggle the mind at times......!

Anyway, along the way I did do the AO6 ROM upgrade and at least in my case it was a good thing so now the axim is back to its functional self. Now I have to reinstall all the programs
