ActiveTweak - free software to manage AS
Hi,
I discovered today the above application, which provides the following functionality:
ActiveTweak is designed for the PC running ActiveSync…
- Set yourself up as a guest partner and never have it prompt you again
-Remove those installs you accidentally clicked on that will be run on the next activesync connection
-Stop the Application Manager from popping up every time you cradle your device.
-Delete Partnerships without having to wipe out activesync and reinstall.
-Change the communication timeouts on the sync. Slow Computer? No longer a problem! (tho you might want to check for spyware, if it’s that slow….)
The URL is:
http://pocketpcapps.net/activetweak.aspx
I don't know the meaning of the parameters in the "Change Timeouts" tab, I'd appreciate any info.
Thanks.

The timeout tab warns "Don't change these unless you know what they're for!"
But their website doesn't give more information.
Even so, I bumped up the timouts to 20/20/50/10 to try to see if AS works better with my WM2003 X50v. So far, so good.
Defaults were 20/5/50/4

Paul,
What do you mean in "so far so good"?
That you Axim or PC haven't gone up in smoke? :)
Or that you're experiencing faster connections?
Or that the AS connection doesn't wake up as often as before?

It means since I've applied the new timeouts, I haven't had any synchronization errors on cradle-ing (about 2-3 times)
Usually, I have an error 9/10 times.
We'll see if this has fixed it on future syncs.

hi.
to be honest, i don't know what the timeouts are for, specifically, although by the titles i can surmise their use. wait v2 timeout seconds i'm completely at a loss as to what it's for.
activetweak lets you do things to the registry, but when i was writing it, i discovered a rather large portion of how AS works with the registry is completely undocumented. this is why the info on the timeouts isn't on my site. saying not to change them unless you know what they're for is a disclaimer. ie: if you change them and can't sync, it's not my fault.
glad it seems to be fixing your AS issues, tho.

Well my cradleing success has flipped-flopped. I now get about 4/5 good syncs. I've been using the same values.
The only stupid thing is when I cradle my X51v, it sometimes tells me I cannot sync because I need Activesync 4.0 or higher (I'm using 4.2 beta).
Man, this is flaky software (Microsoft ActiveSync). I can't believe it's deployed for professional use.

that's why i wrote activetweak. to assist with the AS issues i've been seeing.
familiar with the phrase "Microsoft Works?" ;)
I removed AS 4.2 after testing it, and went back to 3.8. it's just too buggy as of yet.
