I haven't been able to get ActiveSync 3.8 to work properly in months. I can't upgrade it because I have Windows Mobile 2002, and Microsoft stopped supporting it, like no one has a PocketPC that's a few years old (as much as I'd love to spend $300 on a new one that's the same as what I have now, I'll pass).
Contacts: If I change a contact on my Axim, ActiveSync never updates it in Outlook, and vice versa. It's like it doesn't know it's been changed. One time I deleted all my Outlook contacts to see if I could get it to sync, but instead of copying my Axim contacts to Outlook, it deleted them! I did a restore, then syncrhonized it again. They came back, but all of their categories were suddenly different. I had to change them all on my Axim. Then I did another sync and I ended up with two copies of them.
Calendar: It seems like every other time I sync, it creates copies of all my birthdays and anniversaries. I can't figure out a pattern (I don't know what I'm doing that's causing this), but it gets to the point where I turn on my Axim and I get six reminders for the same thing. I have to go through my calendar and delete them all. Within a month, they're all back again.
I've tried reinstalling, and it doesn't do any good.
I guess my question is, why is 3.8 such a POS, and can I possibly do anything to fix these problems?
I'm about ready to go back to Palm, I never had ONE problem with HotSync :realmad:
I played around with it some more, and actually, if I change something in Outlook, it will update the Pocket PC. If I ADD something on my Pocket PC, it will add it to Outlook, but if I CHANGE or REMOVE something on my Pocket PC, it won't update Outlook.
Also, if I connect the Axim and then take it off, it won't connect again until I reset it.
hi, when you sync for the first time, a screen come up and ask you how to resolve conficts between outlook and your ppc. i set mine at combine the two. but you can select to alter outlook or ppc. hope this helps.
Hmm, I found a seller offering that as a download for $3... it sounds pretty legit. Maybe I'll try that.
Now that I look again, it seems 4.1 supports Pocket PC 2002. I could have sworn the last time I looked, Microsoft said you had to have WM2005 to use it. Anyway, I guess I'll try it and see if it works.
I'm obviously a moron, so you can all ignore me now ;)
By the way, I didn't mean to ignore your suggestion... I have it set to replace items on the PC when a conflict occurs. I never use Outlook on my PC, I just like to have the data from the Axim on there.
Well, I know this thread is becoming pretty crazy, but I have a better idea of what my problem is now. Updating to ActiveSync 4.1 didn't help.
If I change an existing item on my Axim while it's not connected to my computer, ActiveSync won't see the change on the next connect. It will see any changes that I make while it's connected, or any that I make in Outlook at any time. It will also see the change if I add something to my Axim at any time. This happens with all data, not just my contacts.
I also have the problem with the Axim not connecting to my computer more than once unless I reset it. Something tells me all this is caused by ActiveSync on my Axim, not on my PC. I will try the WM2003 upgrade soon and let you know what happens.
Do you hand-write notes on or use a separate keyboard with your Axim? I have an X50v, with WM2003 (not PPC2002), and using AS 3.8. Whenever I scribble a note on my Axim (or even try to use the built-in keyboard), my Axim will not sync the next time I place the Axim in the cradle - Outlook terminates and AS closes with a 'can't sync' message. I have a BT keyboard I use most of the time with my Axim, and as long as my notes are composed with that keyboard, they will sync and AS works fine. But if I scribble a note or use anything other than the BT keyboard, my Axim won't sync no matter what I do.
May not apply with PPC2002, but just a thought.
And AS 4.1, etc., is supposed to work with earlier versions of Windows Mobile - there are some features (wireless sync) that won't work with 4.1; however, WM5 will only work with AS 4.x and later.
