Computer cannot find USB connection

The title pretty well sums it up. I stopped using my X5 for a long time, can't remember why. Now I want to start using it again but my computer cannot find it via USB port.
I had a non-Dell Wifi card in the X5 but never could get it to work reliably, then found out that the Dell is the one PDA that cannot utilize the additional 128MB of storage teh card provides.
Nevertheless, the X5 still will not conect to the computer, even though I hear the tinkle sound when I plug in the USB cable...any idea what might have happened and how to correct it?

Sorry, I'm not much help but I am having a similar problem. This is my first attempt to install and run AS 4.1 and the computer doesn't seem to be able to see the X51v which is connected to the USB port. The program shows the USB port is available but doesn't seem to be able to see the Axim. Have checked the Windows firewall and it doesn't seem to be set to deny all access or "exceptions".

If anyone has some clues, it might help us both.

what does activesync show? does the icon turn green?
