Active Sync 4.0 and Sygate firewall
By chance has anyone been able to get ActiveSync 4.0 to work with this firewall on? I have searched through most of the posts dealing with this subject and have seen one or two who claimed they got it to work. I have tried the two MS rules but it still will not sync, it hangs at "retrieving settings".

I have never gotten it to work. I've tried the rules from the MS site and any port it tries to use. Even right clicking the systray icon and setting the firewall to allow all doesn't let it connect. Exiting it and restarting after syncing is what I do.

I finally found the fix for it. The problem was actually with the x51v and a couple of registry settings is all that needs to be changed. They have a .cab file you can download at buzzdev.net after registering of course, that will make the registry changes for you. It had to do with the MTU value and the MaxoutTransfer values in the x51v's registry. I have the MS rules and ran this cab file and now it works. The file name is WM5 ActiveSync 4 Sygate FW Fix.cab. I hope I have not broken any forum rules by mentioning the site where I found this info, that is why I did not direct link to anything.

Just in case, here are the two registry keys that need to be added if you want to do it manually. Soft reset and give it a try.

Registry Sub Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINEDriversUSBFunctionDriversRNDIS]
Name of the Value to add: MTU
Type : DWORD
Data: 1514 (Value is Decimal)

Registry Sub Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINEDriversUSBFunctionDriversRNDIS]
Name of Value to add: MaxOutTransfer
Type: DWORD
Data: 1642 (Value is Decimal)

keywords SYNC ACTIVEYSYNC 4.1 4.2 WINDOWS MOBILE 5.0 "RETRIEVING SETTINGS" SYGATE

Hi everyone,

you may wanna give this a shot:

if u are using Sygate, gets 'hang' on "retrieving settings" and NO sync between ppc pda and pc, try this:

go to 'start', go to 'sygate' program, click File, click Exit.

then hook up ppc pda, and sync.

WARNING : enable your Sygate again after u're done with sync or your system will be vulnerable.

Registry change works
Yes! Great work, YardDog. :

For those experiencing trouble with ActiveSync and Sygate Firewall, adding these two keys to the registry fixed the problem for me. I am using AS 4.2 and Sygate 5.6 I didn't get stuck at "Retrieving Settings..." Instead I was connected, but nothing was synching, nothing was happening.

You will need a registry editor (such as TRE).
Inside the registry, navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | Drivers | USB | FunctionDrivers | RNDIS
Then add a new DWORD: MTU
Change the Decimal value to 1514

Also, inside the same subKey HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | Drivers | USB | FunctionDrivers | RNDIS
Add another new DWORD: MaxOutTransfer
Change the Decimal value to 1642

Close the registry editor, soft reset, and synchronize with firewall on.

I just wanted to tell that these registry edits also solved my problem of synchronizing my phone.

I had the added trouble that my phone is application locked and I had to use a signed registry editor.

I used the one found here:
http://blogs.conchango.com/stuartpre...1/10/2376.aspx

And I have attached the Registry editor signed by HTC (QTek) to this post. So that others who have this problem can still find it when the eforementioned site goes down.

Hope this helps others.
