Icon3 Activesync Problem Solved

I recently solved a problem with Activesync, and I don't think the solution has been posted anywhere here, and I thought it might help some people:

When I first got my x51v, I had a lot of problems with the device not being able to connect to Activesync via USB. It would work fine for a little while, then Activesync would refuse to recognise the device and I'd have to delete the connection and create a new one.

Then I noticed that it only happened when I was running Winamp. I tried switching to Musicmatch and it did the same thing. Then I tried a free player called dbPowerAmp, which didn't cause any problems. Unfortunately I really hated the program. I had a hunch that it had something to do with the fact that Winamp and Musicmatch have their own features for syncing with portable devices. So I tried installing the "lite" version of Winamp, which doesn't have that feature and, sure enough, the problem hasn't come back yet.

So, if you're having problems similar to mine, you might want to try downgrading your MP3 player!

That's an interesting fix I hadn't thought of. I was having a similar problem, but since upgrading to A12 ROM a few days ago I haven't noticed it. Maybe it's just because I haven't been running any music software, though. I'll look into that aspect. Do you think it would apply to WMP10, too? (It has similar syncing options)

My AS problem is different (at least since the ROM upgrade): I can only USB sync with my PC if I turn on the PC with the Axim on and in the cradle, then I have to take it out and put it back in (otherwise the PC just says "connecting" forever, and never connects).

If I turn the computer on without having the device on and in the cradle, I can never get a connection, no matter how many times I take out/put in the cradle.

It is establishing the network connection with the computer (a "Windows Mobile-Based Device" is always shown in my connections, but activesync never engages (it doesn't even say "connecting"). I've tried disabling all the firewall software, so I don't think that's the cause...anyone know of any other software that would do this (and somehow not do it when I turn on/plug in the axim first?

I looked throughout this forum and didn't see anything exactly like my problem so I apologize if this has been addressed somewhere.

Right now, I'm on AS 4.1. Would it help at all to upgrade to 4.2 now that it is out of Beta? As of right now I'm reluctant to mess with it too much; it's not too hard for me to remember to turn on my Axim and put it in the cradle before I turn my PC on in the morning, but I'd prefer for it to work correctly, instead (strange concept, I know!)

Thanks. Don't know what I'd do without you.

I hate WMP, so I never tried it. But since it is made my microsoft, I think it probably won't have that incompatibility. But then again, never underestimate Microsoft's ability to screw up their own software
