X51v not syncing at all
Hi,
a few days ago I had a malicious trojan removed from my PC.
Rebooted many (20 times) and removed many keys from my registry with HijackThis.
I then installed bitdefender v9 and spybot (after getting rid of nod32 and rebooting).
Since that day, I've never been able to sync my x51v (A04 Fr rom). No more network icon when I put the x51v in its cradle. Nothing.
I reinstalled activesync 4.2 (which I used flawlessly before) several times. I tried to deactivate bitdefender's firewall and disabling teatimer, nothing either.
Does anybody have an idea please?
Thanx

MS Troubleshooting guide
Check this troubleshooting guide from MS if you are using USB for syncing
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...c/default.mspx
Security applications (e.g. desktop firewalls, antivirus, IDSs, etc.) may cause Activesync to stop working properly.
I had problems with ISS Proventia Desktop. I added the Activesync files (Wcesmgr.exe, Wcescomm.exe, Rapimgr.exe) as trusted applications (allowed to communicate through the firewall) and I created rules for the ports mentioned in the guide (incoming TCP 990, 999, 5678, 5721, 26675 and outgoing UDP 5679). The source IP address range is 169.254.2.0/255.255.255.0 (in order to not allow everybody. I found it in the automatic rules that Activesync creates in Windows XP Firewall). After these changes, everything is working fine.
Hope it helps.

Have you done a soft reset on the PDA?
I used to have a similar thing occur where I'd plug the Axim in and nothing would happen, I never narrowed down the cause but I found a solution. All I had to do was restart the computer and soft reset the Axim and it all worked again. I think ActiveSync on the Axim was the problem and the soft reset closed it.

Can Apakoh or anyone explain in plain simple english what we can do if we're unable to synchronize the unit? I don't really understand how we can get around firewalls.
I tried going to the MS website & I'm still at a loss how I can sync my unit. I've upgraded to A12 Rom & now on ActiveSync 4.2.
Thanks...anyone?

Cant Help, But I have a similar Problem, I would be VERY happy if someone could point me in the right Direction.....
All of a sudden, my Dell Axim x51v has stopped conneting to PC via ActiveSync (Works PC is using ActiveSync Ver 4.1.0 Build4841, Not sure what my home PC is using, but I'm assuming the same!)
Its been working fine since Feb. Then on the same day (20th Last month), it will no longer connect to EITHER PC (I first thought I'd screwed up a Firewall setting at home).
The PC's recognise the PDA is attached (Status goes from "Not Connected" to "Connecting") and I get the little "ding-a-ling" noise. But thats as far as it gets...."Connecting" but never "Connected"
This is all via a USB Cradle (Work) or a 3rd-party USB sync'n'charge cable at home.
OK, Just Upgraded to ActiveSync 4.2.0 (build 4876), Downloaded from MS tonight.
Still nothing.
Been through the MS Help, and been throught the Firewall settings for Norton/Windows.
Opened ActiveSync, and went
File>ConnectionSettings>Connect and then got the following report:
YOUR device was not detected
Verify that the connection you are using is available:
PORT STATUS
COM1 Not Available
COM2 Not Installed
COM4 Available
Infrared Port (IR) Not Installed
USB Connected
So its says Its NOT connected at the top, yet Says its connected Via USB WTF???
Anything else I can try??
Just gone into ControlPanel>Network Connections:
And under LAN or HIGH SPEED INTERNET, it Shoes Local Area Connection6; CONNECTED Windows Mobile-Based Device. :?: ActivSync still shows no connection.
I'm SO confused!

Firewalls?
I spent lots of time trying to figure out Activesync and why it works for my home computer and not on my work computer. The only diference is, I have Zone Labs firewall protection on my work computer. Of course, I followed the directions on how to make everything trusted through the firewall, but I still could not sync the PDA. My solution at this time is to log on to my work computer, update files and email, and make calender current. Then I close my VPN and disable Zone Labs and right away it syncs. I have turnred the Zone labs inside out, but I can't seem to see the problem. I know it isn't a great fix. Any help would be appreciated.

ActiveSync still says "Connecting"

well, what you might want to do is look in your services and see if something is running that might be blocking it. serveral security packages not only have startup compnonents, but have services associated with them as well. shutting down the main program doesn't completely stop them.
go to start > run, and put in services.msc
look through the services for any av, security, or spyware removal services, and set them to manual or disabled, then reenable them after you sync.
i've seen this issue several times, especially on windows xp home, where the services control panel is hidden by MS, for whatever reason.

I had the same problem recently - out of the blue, with nothing changing on my PC, ActiveSync would "ding", "connect", do the "green spin" for eternity, and would finally terminate with a little red exclamation point on the AS Logo and the vague proclamation of a "Connection Error". I tried everything - upgraded to AS 4.2, scanned for spyware, disabled AV software, disabled firewalls, stepped through the Microsoft Troubleshooters, and scanned these forums intently looking for guidance. Nothing worked. The one thing I did find, however, was that I did not have any of the logs that Active Sync supposedly creates (wcescomm.log, for example).
Fortunately, I was planning on reformatting my PC and upgrading my AXIM to A12 anyways. Once I did that, everything worked perfectly - and ActiveSync literally flies now!
