If Windows does not even see the device, than maybe you have a hardware issue.
Have you verified that the USB port is good?
Start with testing the port, then try another cable if you can. Next would be the cradle.
Or, try using the same equipment on another computer to verify that all of the hardware is good.

remove all your installed apps. like Time, Pocket plus, etc. to see which one is blocking.

do you have a firewall?

firewalls and othe security software may prevent it from seeing the device.

my coworker just got a laptop, and we couldn't get his axim x51v to connect. as it turns out, something called sygate security agent was blocking it. we had to go into the services manager and disable the service. once we did that, it connected.

hope that helps.

Similar problem

I'm having a similar problem, but I can get it to sync every time I delete the partnership and/or reinstall but after about 10 times this is getting old. In fact the name of the device is Windows Mobile-based device#11. The thing about mine is that I hear it give a tone when I connect and then it comes up with a message and the activesync troubleshooter, neither of which helps. I've already disabled the firewall and just about everything at one time or another and nothing helps.

If it is showing a connection in the network connections list but ActiveSync is not starting up then it's got to be software, right? But I've tried downloading 4.2 and reloading it from the disk and every time it works once, maybe twice.

Send it back ?
