Syncing options

today i ordered an X51v and i have a few questions about file transfer from PC to Axim. i'm a total PDA noob, so bear with me. first of all, is activesync necessary? i'm not interested in syncing contacts or mail (i'll download emails directly via internet). the only important thing for me is being able to transfer files to and from the Axim - music, video files, excel files etc. do i have to install additional software in order to see the contents of my SD card/BIM from My Computer, just like an external harddrive, or is this standard behaviour? it would be great if i could just drag folders over to the Axim from a Windows Explorer window.

also, i'm going to try to avoid programs that install via activesync, and just download cab files. thanks for your help!

Welcome to AmimSite :) If you get a CF or SD card for your Axim AND have a way to hook that same card to your PC/Laptop, then YES, you can drag and drop files back and forth withouht ActiveSync. (You'll have to switch the card back and forth between the Axim and PC to accomplish this - insert card to PC, copy files to card, remove card and place in Axim...and vice versa). The standard File Explorer that comes on your Axim will work, or you can download Total Commander for free.

thanks for the rerply. i was kind of hoping that i could do this with the SD card in the axim, and the axim connected to the PC via USB. i thought Total Commander was for viewing files on the Axim/SD card from the axim.

Another option is to install this program which will make the axim act like a flash drive. No software except this program on the axim, as long as you have a recent computer. http://www.softick.com/pocket-pc/cardexport2/
