Activesync doesn't show file conversion options

I'm trying to transfer Excel files to my Axim, so as I understand it Activesync will have to convert them to Pocket Excel / Excel Mobile format... but it doesn't. I've looked at the settings for file conversions... and they're not there. For desktop to device, it has an option to convert Pocket Excel to Pocket Excel(!), but there's no entry for me to choose what to do with regular Excel files. Any thoughts?

I'm new to all this, and this is the first time I've tried to copy across Excel files. A total guess is that something went wrong when I installed the Textmaker beta - the installation process for that stopped Word files getting converted on transfer... perhaps it also did the same for Excel files. I don't think there's an entry for Word files in the settings, come to think of it. I'm sceptical this is the problem, but something is...

Should I just remove and re-install Activesync and see if that helps? Not particularly impressed with Activesync, I must say...

Cheers!

I have trnasfer many excel files to my x51v, all I do is just copy and paste it into my x51v. The activesync will convert it for you.

OK, if I go into Tools, Options, there is no rules tab.

If I go Tools, Advanced Tools, Edit File Conversion settings, I get a dialog with three tabs: general, device to desktop, desktop to device.

On the first one, convert files when synchronised is checked.

On the third one, there is a list of desktop computer convertible file types. This includes Pocket Excel Workbook and Pocket Excel Template, but it does not include (desktop) Excel. When I click on Pocket Excel Workbook, it says desktop files of type Pocket Excel Workbook will convert to mobile device files of type Pocket Excel workbook.

Is it Activesync being stupid or me? Happy for it to be either, as long as it can be fixed!

Same here but I tried it and it opens excel files just fine. I have been using another program and haven't tried it since upgrading to x51, wm5. I think they improved it if i remember reading correctly. I guess you don't have to convert anymore.

I haven't checked what version of AS it is (not in front of my PC at the moment), but it's a brand new Axim (less than a month old), so I'm assuming it's the latest. The unit itself has the A12 ROM, for example (I checked that).

Here is from the Microsoft website:

If you used Pocket Excel on previous versions of Windows Mobile, a quick glance at Excel Mobile on a Windows Mobile 5.0 powered device might leave you thinking it has not changed much. A longer look, however, reveals some significant and much welcomed changes and additions. Here are the new Excel Mobile features we’ll go over.

Using menu option on soft keys
Using a keyboard with Excel menus
Viewing a spreadsheet in full screen mode
Using native Excel file formats
Creating charts and graphs
