Please Help
I got my replacement today and have installed AS4.2 on my xp computer but cannot get beyond the spinning green circle. On my laptop it shows contacts, calendar, etc with nothing in the status column. It says it is Synchronizing. On the x51v it says synchronizing. I contacted Dell tech chat and they said to uninstall & reinstall 4.2. I have done that many times and still cannot get beyond the spinning green circle. My unit came with A06rom and I want to upgrade to A12 but cannot get the sync to work.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Do you have any firewall software on your XP computer? There are lots of reports of firewall issues.

My XP computer is setup to connect to the office domain. I've found that I can only sync when connected to the domain (either in the office or with VPN).

I had zone alarm installed. I deleted it and it is now working properly. I don't know if I will re-install it.

I've been using the zone alarm firewall as well, and i found that if i had the "internet lock" engaged then my x51v wouldn't sync either, but with the internet lock turned off it worked fine. I can't remember if i had to play around with the settings, or make "exceptions" in zone alarm though?

If you upgrade to Zone Alarm Pro and follow Microsofts help file on AS4.2, you can allows the AS ports to work. Zone Alarm Basic does not allow the ports to be specified.

I had the basic Zone Alarm and I had read the microsoft help and had tried to add the AS files and they would not appear being added.
Finally after reading the posting by Kevind I just deleted ZA and it works.

check out this link above. i was having the same problem with a different internet security system and it helped me step by step to get activesync to work without having to delete the program. good luck!

Don't delete the best firewall on the market! All it is are some settings in ZA. If you go to the Zone Labs web site there is an article there on exactly how to make activesync work through ZA.
