ActiveSync Why has it taken so long for this category?

What item is "unresolved" ?

First I must say that as a recent convert to PPC from Palm, I am sorely dissapointed that there is no Document-to-go equivilent (please do correct me if I am mistaken) for PPC. I completely dislike the idea of having to move my documents to a specific folder on my PC for them to sync to my Axim. What a ridiculous way to go about it. Why? Why not just point to the document's actual location and sync with that? I don't know. (I read in the forums of Mobsycn, but I am aprehensive to try it)

Anyway... My actual problem right now is:

After each sync I now am alerted that there is 1 "unresolved item" with my "files" folder. I have even removed everything/all my documents from this folder on my PC and still I get this message. When I click and look at "settings" for more info (in activesync) I am simply shown a list of synced items, but no info on what item is "unreloved".

Any thoughts on this?

Unresolved items are pieces of data of files that have been changed on both the PC and the PPC and the device cannot reconcile the most current version. Check the Options set up in Activesync to tell the PC how to deal with them:
  1. In Activesync, click Tools
  2. Select Options...
  3. Then select the Rules tab
In the Desktop dropdown box, select the option you want.

This doesn't always get the job done. If this is the case, uncradle the device and then reconnect. Failing this, a soft-reset normally corrects any errant behaviour.

Make sure that you always have a current backup before performing any kind of reset: it helps undo any unexpected behaviour.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I had read something similar in another thread, but I do not have a "Rules" tab. Should I? I guess the obvious answer is "yes".

Just to be clear: on my pc - in activesync, I click "tools", then "options", there is only one tab on the top called "options", with a list of things to sync, and a box called "settings" at the bottom.

Am I missing something here? I have AS 4.2 (4876)

I am running AS4.2 on the laptop (AS3x on the pc) and I do have a Rules tab in both :s

The first tab is called Sync Options, then you should have Schedule and the last is the Rules tab.

Can you check what you are syncing in the Sync Options screen and let me know? Normally, you will have Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Favorites and Files all checked.

I have:
Axim x51v (got it about 2 weeks ago)
AS 4.2 on Sony Vaio notebook - (AS 4.1 came w/ Axim, so I recently updated it to AS 4.2)

With the axim in it cradle (out of cradle the option is grey) I open the AS window on my PC, click "tools" on the top menu bar, then on "options" (right about the greyed out "schedule" option). In this view on the top there in only 1 tab - it is the "options" tab. Below this is a list of items to be syncronized with check boxes next to the ones I have set to sync (Contacts, Calendar, Email, files, etc). "files" is checked and if I right click on it (or go to the "settings" box at the bottom of this window" it brings up a box called "File Synchronization". This lists the files i have on my PC to sync w/ Axim (i have just 1 test file in here now).

Are you synching with one pc? If that is the case, I can only assume that AS has not updated correctly.

I've just checked AS4.2 (Build 4876) on my laptop; even without the Axim connected I can get to Options... from the Tools menu. From there I have all three tabs and I can make any adjustments without connecting.

My version of AS was a clean install (no upgrade) on the laptop - I never managed a successful upgrade from AS3.8 on the main pc. It may be worth reverting to AS4.1 to see if this has the desired effect. If not, try a clean install of AS4.2 (or AS3.8) which can be downloaded from the Windows Mobile website.

I uninstalled AS4.2, downloaded a different file from another site, and reinstalled AS 4.2 again. Same problem - I click "Options", "Tools" and there is only 1 tab. There is NO "sync options", "Schedule" or "rules" tabs.

One questions though - you mentioned about syncing w/ more than one computer. I am only syncing w/ this one, but when I am clean/reinstalling AS 4.2, it says that this device is set to sync with another computer. I see (after installation) that "other" computer is this one. So now I have 2 folder tree looking lists - 1 for each name I gave - last AS 4.2 install and this new one.

So, I have several questions:
1. When I unistall AS 4.2 there is obviously some residual files left behind - are these causing a problem.
2. I reinstalled AS 4.2 in the same folder it had been previously located. After the unistall, I rebooted, and then checked to see if the AS folder was still listed in my C:\progam files\ folder tree - it is listed and contains quite a few files from other programs installed on my device. Can I/should I install the "clean" install in a different folder? If so, will I then have to reinstall this other software as well (Calligrapher, Skype, Resco, etc)?

It sounds like you have two partnerships. Cradle the Axim and in Activesync click File and then Mobile Device.

There should be one partnership listed there (your current one): if not, the other(s) can be deleted.

As for your missing tabs, I confess that I am running out of ideas. The only thing that I can think of is that AS is not booting properly at start up (assuming that you are running AS on the pc boot). Normally, I would only think that this was a problem if AS wasn't connecting with the device, but....

Uncradle the Axim and kill any processes that are associated with AS - make sure that Outlook is closed. Then restart AS from the Start Menu and recradle the Axim.

Thanks for your time. I deleted all AS relationships, stopped Spy Sweeper and Zone Alarm from starting up on reboot, then rebooted. Still no option "Tabs". I did get rid of the "unresolved item" issue, but the Tabs issue is driving me insane. I can not find anyone other mention of this posted on the internet. I may repost in a new thread so see if anyone else has thoughts.

Jogga - are you synching with Exchange Server perhaps?

Sporkman - if you are running the latest version of Pocket Breeze and Pocket Informant (2007 or 2005), the file is probably pocketinformant.vol. The author of Pocket Breeze is looking in to the problem which cropped up in a recent release. I share your dismay at how neanderthal ActiveSync is compared to Docs To Go.

Mike, I sync only with my pc and laptop. I confess that I haven't a clue why you should not have the same access as I do. Even if the tabs are unavailable, you should still be able to see them.
