Hi. I've had huge problems in getting Activesync working properly. Its very fickle; sometimes it works and other times I can't even get a connection between my X51v and my notebook. But I now have a solution that works for me and perhaps it may assist others.
Here are the steps I typically follow: 1. I plug in my Axim via USB and nothing happens. 2. I open the task manager (ctl-alt-del in Windows XP) 3. I notice that only the first two of the three essential ActiveSync processes (rapimgr.exe, wcescomm.exe, WCESMgr.exe) are loaded 4. I end the rapimgr.exe and wcescomm.exe processes (by selecting and hitting the "End Process" button. 5. Finally I restart ActiveSync via the start menu. If I follow those 5 steps, ActiveSync always gets going after I plug in the PDA. I have found that I can't just start WCESMgr.exe if the other two processes are active. It still doesn't work. I have to close all associated processes and then restart. Sorry if this is old news. Peter.

Good post
It does kind of beg the question as to why AS doesn't load correctly every time though. Perhaps a firewall adjustment may provide a permanant fix or, even worse, reinstalling AS from scratch. You are right; Activesync is indeed a fickle program.
