:( Axim Won't Connect
well after wiping my pc, i installed AS4.2, and Outlook 2007 Beta, plus my X51v (A06, but that will change soon :D ), and whenever i plug in my Axim it gos "duhduhduh", and i have now found this is "new device failed to connect" in Windows - i presume i need drivers, but windows update doesnt see any, and im on XP SP2, turning firewalls off doesn't help either
 !!!

You might want to try disabling any firewalls (including the Windows firewall) that you have enabled on your PC. AS4x uses a psuedo-network connection via USB and firewall may block this traffic. If that works, you need to puch a hole in your firewall to allow that traffic. The other option is to disable this type of connection by going into settings/Connections/USB to PC and uncheck the "Enable advanced network functionality" box on your PDA. This will allow Activesync to communicate directly through USB, bypassing the creation of a "network adapter" in device manager. I hate AS4x :realmad: But i digress...
Hope this helps,

nah, doesnt help, i think the problem is the way windows handles it, as whenever i plug it in it doesnt make the usual noise it goes "duh duh duh" almost like it needs drivers or similar

OMG! I am having the same problem now! #$@#%
I have my PDA setup to work like a USB device, not network. The PDA is detected in device manager on the PC, but Activesync won't connect. I think it is a problem on the PDA and not Windows. I say this because a hard reset fix the connection issue. I notice that the connecting to USB message on the PDA is no longer popping up, so it is likely something the PDA is not doing right. Just to frustrate me more, sometimes it works but then stops working again. Soft resets have no affect. Grrr...

This sounds a bit like the problem my fiance is having. I took a look at it briefly and couldn't figure it out, but later today I think I'll investigate it more thoroughly. But if eveyrone else is having such trouble, I doubt I could fix it. However, she has managed in the meantime to buy a Bluetooth adapter for her laptop and sync with her PDA through that--which is odd, because it's definitely not the cable that's the problem, since we tested it and it works fine with my PDA.

usb connection
i had the same problem -my laptop wasnt recognizing the 51v. i tried disabling firewall etc.. but didnt work. then , on the axim, i unchecked/checked/unchecked/checked (finally setting- the check box is ticked) the " advanced network connection" and then the activesync started working and my laptop and the axim recognized each other. had to restart the laptop and take the dell off the cradle and do a soft reset. hope this helps.

I have the same problem. Somehow, the computers (both desktop and notebook) are not able to detect the PDA. I've tried all sorts of ways and spent literally hours trying to fix the problem. It's not the firewall according to my techie. Since I've not been synchronizing my unit for the last 2 months, I'm copying down my important appointments manually as a backup in case I need to do a hard reset which incidentally may not even work.
I'm willing to try anything to get it connected otherwise the X51v is just a brick!
BTW, I've an x51v running A12ROM with 1GB/128MB SD card and another CF card. ActiveSync is 4.5 Beta and Outlook 2002

I've assumed you already tried this?
Start > Settings > Connections > USB to PC
and Uncheck "Enable advanced network functionality"
