Internet through ActiveSync - e-mail OK, browsing not

I am connecting Axim x51v A12 to internet through Activesync 4.2 USB.
Advanced network functionality is disabled in 'USB to PC' options.

I can download e-mails using FlexMail or Pocket Outlook, also Pocket Weather can download the forecasts. But browsing the web does not work, either PIE or Netfront 3.3 do not see the connection to the internet and try to connect through GPRS.

I tried switching net to both 'internet' and 'work' and all 3 possibilities in AS (internet, work, auto), but the result is the same

Why is it happening ?

Welcome
Are you trying to connect thru your cell phone since you mention GPRS? Do you have wifi access? If so does that work?

No, it's no what I meant. Let me clarify it:

1. I do have working WiFi and GPRS connections; when I connect either through WiFi or GPRS e-mail (Pocket Outlook or FlexMail), weather foreacst downloading (Pocket Weather) and network browsing (PIE and Netfront) work great

2. when I connect Axim to my laptop through ActiveSync USB connection, it should get internet access from the laptop; and it does; however, this connection is only 'seen' by e-mail programs and Pocket Weather. Web browsers (PIE or Netfront) do not 'see' the connection and try to dial up using existing cell phone connection.

So, ActiveSync connection internet connection is selectively not working for web browsing, and working for other purposes.

Do you have any idea why this might happen?

Maybe I'm wrong here, and I'm sure someone will point it out to me, but I have never heard of connecting to the Internet via PIE using Activesync. Email is received through Outlook using Activesync, but I don't think you share your Internet connection through your PC using Activesync. The Internet connection is obtained through your wireless router and the built-in wireless adapter in your Axim. There may be other ways to connect to the internet like Bluetooth and a Bluetooth enabled cell phone, but not using Activesync and PIE.

Someone tell me if I'm wrong here.

Well, you certainly can get a pass-through internet connection.
In my case it does not work for web browsing for some reason though.

I also have the same problem (even had a thread on this problem but NO ONE replied), I can 'connect' to the Internet through Activesync BUT only by using ip addresses, for example using http://216.239.39.99 will take me to Google where I can search for something (example aximsite) which will give the sites with the word aximsite in it) BUT if I click on the link to open it I get an error "Cannot open page...". It means I cannot access Internet to update weather etc.

I cannot find pass through to see if that will work. I have Journal Bar on my X51V but cannot use it to get weather or other info from Internet. Waiting for someone to show us how to get it...

I have the similar problem - after reinstall my desktop comp, installing ActiveSync 4.2 - I lost internet connection (email is OK). Did not help setting up un ActiveSync on desktop a work/internet (not automatic) connection.

What the hell could cause this misery...
