I had the exact same problem. I eventually hard reset and the problem went away.

I believe that while on the cradle Active Sync was interupted by SPB Backup. I happened to be watching. After that interruption, nothing would allow the sync until a hard reset was done on the Axim.

The problem was NOT solved by uninstalling and reinstalling ActiveSync.

Is it possible that your sync was interrupted?

I believe that files left on the Axim from a interrupted sync stop any further syncs. If we knew what the files were, we could delete them, but as I didn't - I had to hard reset. (Of course I tried a few soft resets first.) I have two axims, the other axim would sync fine during this whole process.

I have the same problem where AS does not detect the device and starts the troubleshooter.

I had just upgraded a new X50v to WM5. AS 4.2 worked fine when I connected the X50v with WM2003SE. The upgrade seemed to perform OK, but AS has not connected to the Axim since the upgrade.

I have hard-reset, soft-reset, uninstalled 4.2 and reinstalled, uninstalled and reinstalled 4.1.

I do not have any firewalls running.

I could not locate the "enable" checkbox referenced above...

I'm having the very same issue - x50v synched fine on Friday, this morning, nothing. I've tried uninstalling/installing AS 4.2, and was going to delete the device and create a new one - but it won't let me - says there are no partnerships, and everything is greyed out! Any suggestions????

I had the same problem. I had to system restore my computer back to a time when it worked. AS is working fine for me now. *knock on wood* I am running AS 4.2.

Backup to the rescue

I restore to the last backup that worked . No help in re-installing AS (4.5 Beta) or deleting partnerships,

I am having Sync problems, too. It worked fine until yesterday. I am now getting this message:

"Synchronization cannot be completed successfully. Reconnect your device and try again. If the problem persists, see the Microsoft... blah blah blah..."

It DOES connect. I can explore the device, move files, etc. Just no sync. Very strange.

I was using 4.1 (came on the disc with the X51v I got last week). Upgraded to 4.2 from the web. No luck. Uninstalled. Installed 4.5 beta. No luck. Tried just about all the advice in this thread and in the trouble shooter.

All I am using for virus protection is AVG free edition.

The only cause for this that I can think of is found in this thread: http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=140677

I was getting an error message, then I re-installed PocketInformant. The error message is gone, but now no sync.

Any guesses?

After finding that Calendar and Tasks couldn't be opened, I gave up. My first Hard Reset. Sync 4.5 now works perfect. I have spent the last half hour selectively re-installing software. :approve:

I finally got mine resolved by doing the following:

@ Windows Command Line Prompt, select Run option in the start menu, entering 'cmd.exe' into the text dialogue and pressing return. This will launch a DOS window into which you type the following commands, pressing return at the end of each:

set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1

start devmgmt.msc

Device Manager will automatically appear after the second command, and now if you go to into its View menu and select 'Show hidden devices' you should see quite a few 'greyed out' items referring to missing hardware.

Uninstall all the Dell Axim USB drivers.

Then restart the computer and connect the Axim. In my case, it correctly reinstalls the drivers and correctly connects.

I found these instructions in a different ActiveSync thread, and it worked.

Thanx LORISS,
finally something that worked with activesync, I installed the new a012 and lost my backup, (says it that my previous backup was created in wm2003 and, therefore, i cannot restore tha data properly. This is bumpkis, its a 520mhz x51? it never had wm2003 on it?)

But with your fix, activesync made perfectly clean new connection the very first time... YEAH!

I have to say these Activesync/mobile OS issues are seriously making me regret my axim purchase, I spend more time trying to get it to do what its supposed to do then actually using the f-ing thing.

Does anyone else think the amount of time that we consumers have to spend making this work at is absolutely ridiculous?

once I couldnt get anything on my USB port to work on my laptop because it was dusty. I know it sounds odd but I took a Q-tip and cleaned it and afterwords everything worked fine. Just something to try.

On Axim:

Note: this is only available above a certain Rom version (I believe, A12).

It's been two weeks now since you applied this fix. Have you been able to consistenly connect and synch since then? Do you synch on two PCs? Which version(s) of ActiveSynch do you use? Which version(s) of Outlook do you use?

I had a problem similar to this. I would put my axim in the cradle and it would sync all the programs I wanted it to, but when i tried to use ActiveSync to put music into my Axim, as I had done previously, for some reason I could not anymore. It was acting as if no device was present. Anyone have any ideas for me? Id still like to be able to put media onto my Axim occaisionally and presently I cannot.
