I attempted Lorris's solution but when I searched in USB controllers couldn't find any Dell Axim USB drivers to delete. When I connect the x51v to a new usb port it says it is loading the driver but it never appears in the USB controller folder. My firewall is off. Could someone please advise me either what I am doing wrong or what to do in order to sync with the 4.5beta AS. Thank you

Issues with AS 4.2

OK!
I've upgraded, to the A12 from A06

Had no problems until a week later when i was setting up my emails in messege program.

It seems that once you've established a connection with pop account, the axim remembers it and so if you do a hard reset that file still remains b/c once i did a hardreset i was not able to reconnect my previous pop accounts with the same name. I had to use a different name. But my spb diary still shows the old accounts. But when i try to look them up in the messenge program i can't see them.

So i decided to do another ROM upgrade, thinking i might erase everything and i can reset my email account.

But the previous times i did the hardreset and upgrade, my AS was able to upload the files i had installed on the device. But recently i've noticed that those files weren't uploaded.

I'm assuming b/c the AS is connected to my pda with a new name.

Is there a way to get those files back? Do i need to update the ROM again etc.?

Now i know it's been told to back everything up, but since i didn't have a problem the first time i didn't do it again, but no i have problems.

As far as the files are concerned they aren't that important, but it would be nice to get them back.

Any help is much apprecaited.

Thanks in advance.

Well I'm back to the same problem - I was on a trip this week and didn't take my travel sync cable with me, tried to sync today and it's not working again - back to no partnerships!

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling 4.2, did a soft reset and still no luck. Getting ready to do a hard reset and see if it will work. I'm using Outlook 2003, and just one computer. If anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear them! I have even tried the suggestion I posted but now it's not even showing the Axim device!

possible solution for x51 synch problems

I would get the same message when I would try to synch my x51, active sync would execute, but it would stay at 'connecting' and never actually connect. Here's how I fixed it.

go to start, settings, connections, tap on USB to PC and uncheck the 'enable advanced network functionality' checkbox.

never had an issue synching since.

After posting in the X51V, "Maybe This is Goodbye," because whatever I did would not allow my Axim to sync with AS, I took the big leap and performed the ominous "HARD RESET." Guess what? It's syncing again. For how long, who knows. To be continued.

Zoey:

Did Dell ever send you a new unit? I received mine yesterday. My story is on another recent post. I could have probably hard reset my old unit with the same results, but Dell wanted to replace my unit. So I said OK. Received one with ROM A12 (my original unit had A01). This only means that the Restore function (Spb Backup) does not work on my new unit. But that is just as well because if I restored EVERYTHING to the way it was when I was having Activesync problems, I would have likely restored my problems as well, despite the fact that Dell said it was a HARDWARE problem.

Who knows?

This is really my fifth Axim. The first thre were X50V's, in which I tried to unsuccessfully load WM5. I griped and complained to Dell and after they resent twoi more X50v's which didn't take WM5, they finally sent me a reburbished X51V with A06. That machine did not work very well, and within a short time they sent me another loaded with A06. That is the device which was working great from May 2006 up until late October or early November when it failed to sync. After the hard reset, it is now working. If this device keeps syncing I won't go to Dell for a new machine, but if I have more problems, I am going to really complain to them and insist on a new one. Good luck!

For the heck of it, I entered Dell's tech chat room and requested a "new" X51V with OS A12. In reality, you get a reburbished unit. In the past when I had any problems and requested a new unit, they really made me jump over a lot of hoops. I remeber one session that lasted over an hour before they finally gave in and gave me a new unit. This time, after about ten minutes of chat, and me telling them that everything I did could no longer solve the problem, the tech said, "We'll send you a new unit." When I mentioned to the tech that I had already load OS A12 (which in reality I had not...please excuse the white lie), he said, "No problem, we'll be sure to send you one that is equipped with A12." This still confirms my thought that Axim is no longer a front runner for Dell, and that it is not their focus. They are in the PC and lap top business and can make more money from those items then selling PDA's in the $200-300 range. The saga continues.

Count me in.

I'm having problems with my X51v. I don't want it to Sync ANYTHING. I just want to be able to connect.

All I see is the "green thing" turning, but it eventually says it can't connect.

Tried the Device Manager trick and the Unchecking the option in network connections.

Still doesn't work.

Trying AS 4.1 now.

This is really, really frustrating. It shouldn't be this fucking hard to just SYNC a god damn PDA.

I've had no such problems with my X50v + AS 3.8.

I have tried everything mentioned here and have wasted so much time on it. I ordered a Bluetooth USB dongle from eBay and will try with bluetooth.

This thread here mentioned something about Windows DDK being installed. But when you go the Microsoft site, it's a huge 236MB setup file. You guys may wanna try it out.. Just google for Windows DDK and go to the Microsoft site for download.

Yhis worked on Active Sync 4.2. Start> Settings> Connections> Click on USB To PC> then uncheck Enable advanced network functionality. Soft reset and all should work fine.

I was having nightmares with my x51v after switching from a Palm and was just about to give it all up as a bad idea and go back to Palm but...

I don't know what made me do this because I have tried just about every trick in the book to get my Axim connected but I seem to have found a way to do it (well, it's worked first time every time so far). What I do is switch off my anti virus and firewall and then (as I use XP) log off. I log straight back on and hey presto I'm connected.

You know, I'm going to be gutted if I've now jinxed my laptop

Hope this helps somebody somewhere!

Don’t get your hopes to high with the Bluetooth. My x51v sync’s fine with my home PC (Norton IS) and always has. My work PC (Trend) stopped syncing after a hard reset and I still have not got it to work and I tried Bluetooth thinking I had a bad USB port. Since I need a reimage of my work PC, I’m hoping maybe then it will start working again.
