ActiveSync Unknown Device

I get the following messages when I try to load ActiveSync on my computer:
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows
does not recognize it.

A problem occurred during installation. Your new hardward may not work properly.

I have a Dell Axim X50. I've tried unintalling ActiveSync and resinstalling it. I've tried different versions of ActiveSync. My computer will not read the device. It's reading as Unknown Device or Ethernet Controller in my Device Manager.

Any thoughts? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I had this problem about a week or two ago. I uninstalled/installed AS. I did a reboot of computer and soft reset of axim 51v and it worked. I don't know what the problem was. I ended up installing AS 4.5beta after trying to reinstall 4.2 a couple times.

I don't know if this is a similar problem to the one I experienced in my X3 days: following a hard reset, the Regional settings had to be restored before connecting the Axim to the pc. If the settings were not correct the device could not be read or restored.
From the Start menu:
  1. Settings
  2. System tab
  3. Regional Settings
Hope this helps
