If this gets any more eerie, I'm going to get really scared. I just rebooted and did a soft reset and the Axim synched. I guess I should be grateful for synchs some of the time. Oddly enough, so far I've had no real problems at work with 4.5 Beta.

The problem I had with AS 4.2 is that after a couple of uses, the Explore button would not let me explore the Axim, only the C: drive. The 4.5 beta is not having that problem.

I'm on day 4 using ActiveSynch 4.5 at home - it has worked perfectly.:) I'll be trying it at work next week. Stay tuned.

AS 4.5 Beta now seems fairly stable at home and very stable at work. I just had to reboot my pc and previously I had to go through this whole routine of unhooking the Axim, waiting until the pc booted up, soft resetting my Axim and then putting it back into the cradle. This time, I left it in the cradle during the reboot and when the pc came back on line, the Axim connected immediately. Oh Joy! Keeping my fingers crossed!

The version of Active Sync on my computer is 4.0...as a newbie what is the thinking about the need/benefits of upgrading to 4.2 or the 4.5 beta. I really haven't used the current one and probably won't be using Outlook. Will the newer versions help when installing new programs?

The famous maxim! "As long as it ain't broke, don't fix." If you have not having any problems with 4.0, in my opinion, keep it. Things seem to happen when you change the configuration of the Axim. I am still running A06 and have not upgraded to A12 for that reason.

ZD can't say I am not having any problems as I just got the machine.....I am getting mucho white scren and having to remove and reinstall the battery but that may have nothing to do with AS.
I don't want to use Outlook and will use AS just to move programs and files back and forth.
What is the thinking here about upgrade?

IMHO, 4.0 was the buggiest version of AS that I ever used - a major step backwards to something less than 3.5 (the first I used) and that's saying a lot for one of the worse programs M$ makes. If you have not yet installed 4.0, go at least to 4.2 and I can say 4.5 beta has worked flawlessly for me.

Well...
For me it's certainly no better and may even be worse. I'm getting tons of 85010017 errors, but then again I use Oracle Outlook Connector for Collaboration Suite and it has always been a bit hokey.
Thought I finally got it cleared (it certainly claimed to sync), but then the errors came up again. It doesn't appear that Microsoft has at least fixed the short timeout when you have a large amount of data (that's what causes 85010017) from what I read...

I'm using 4.5B2 and not having any NEW problems.
1. After using wireless extensively I still need to softreset to sync
2. I'm able to surf in the cradle
3. Since I've changed the connection "simple" via Ax51v Activesync menu connecting is much more reliable.
4. My Axim still locks up while in the cradle over 4 hours. (requiring a softreset to bring back alive)

Well, it's still "broke." It works for a few days, especially at work, I bring it home, it connects/synchs the first time, then a few hours later it will not connect, then I bring it to work and it doesn't connect again...
This morning, after rebooting my computer twice, soft-resetting the Ax twice, running the Memaid cleaner a couple of times, checking to make sure my PocketWeather connections were unchecked, it still didn't connect. My usual salvation is to eliminate the Partnership with the computer, reboot both devices, and then it connects and I establish a new Partnership. This is with ActiveSych 4.2 at work. And 4.5 at home. It will work for 2 or 3 days. Then mysteriously not connect again. I also have two different versions of Outlook: at work and at home. I wonder if these different versions screw up each other?
By the way, how do you confirm which version/build ActiveSynch you actually have installed on the Axim - I can't find the version number. Does it only show up on the desktop PCs?
