They say if it ain't broke, don't fix it. That is why I downloaded ActiveSync 4.5 Beta onto my desktop for my Axim x51v last night.
I can say this so far: It works no worse than 4.2. And indeed it enables the Ax to connect and synch. :approve: I have to admit, my 4.2 went for 3 or 4 days with successful connecting and synching as well. We'll see how long 4.5 performs flawlessly.
This brings me to my question: Has anyone else tried this Beta? What exactly is it intended to fix, besides the generic items listed in the download site? Has anyone noted any specific improvements?

Well, I have been using it for a week now and it seems to be no better than 4.1 which is what I've had the most success with. I can't find any improvements.
I had major issues with 4.2 as well (and 4.1). Connection would be intermittent. At home, Syncing wouldn't work at all (with 4.1 or 4.2, after many reinstalls). I installed 4.5 and everything works great.

After reviewing this thread http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...=127725&page=2 (I am gfmucci who pretty well dominated that thread with my multi-week saga of continuing ActiveSync frustration) are you suggesting there is hope? For how long now has "everything worked great?" I've had everything work great with 4.2 for up to four days
I don't know if it will fix all those - I do know I was having major issues, and now everything seems to work great. Hopefully it will continue. I've been using 4.5 ever since it came out. And ya, those are pretty much my favorite verses, and kinda relevant in my life right now.
I have been using it at home and at work for the past ten days. Now, all of a sudden, it's become balky and does not connect everytime. I couldn't connect this a.m. Went off for the day and when I came back, it connected. Yet, now it is not connecting. This is so frustrating because everything worked great with 4.2 until about two weeks ago and tha it too crapped out. I'll keep you posted as to my saga, but this ain't no fun, son!
Here's a postscript. I re-seated the Axim in the cradle, and the little logo kept going round and round without connecting. Then I got the famous "Unable to connect" warning. I kept the Axim in the cradle, and went on to doing something else on the pc, when suddenly, I see the Axim has connected and is downloading contacts, calendar, etc. Very weird indeed!
Looks like the 4.5 requires a lot of newer issue Windows items on the desktop,,,what is the experience here?

I don't understand what you mean re: "requires a lot of newer issue Windows items on the desktop." Can you elaborate a bit? What leads you to that this conclusion?
I brought my X51V to the office after not having been here since last Thursday and it synched immediately with 4.5 Beta. I would sure like to know why it is so periodically unstable.
Do any of you have the Firfox 2 RC3 installed? I installed it a little while ago and my AS 3.8 would hold a connection but then it would just drop at a consistent time (couldn't tell how long, maybe 5-10 minutes). I uninstalled FF2 RC3 and it work like a charm.
I don't know if any of this is related but I thought I might pass it along if it has the potential to help any of you.
Other 3rd party software installs might be something to consider.
I don't have that version, but I am using 1.5.0.7, and my ActiveSync is very ify. It synchs, it doesn't sync. I wonder if the AS problem has anything to do with Firefox as a browser in general??? I just backed up my Axim X51V and when I went to resynch it after the automatic soft reset, it wouldn't hook up. To be continued.
