when i try to connect my axim and sync, my computer recognizes my partnership with axim, looks like it will sync and then suddenly stops and says not connected. error message says to check my settings and connections. i have uninstalled and reinstalled, soft reset. when i go to the mobile device on my desk top you can not tell i am connected, but on my sons computer when you click on the mobile device you can see the contents on my axim. I have opened all the firewall ports that microsoft recommends to if you are having problems with sync, but it still does not help. I am a complete novice to this stuff and need some major help. my life is on this axim and i really want to syc to my computer. could the usb cable or connection be bad?

I occasionally get this (or similar) problem.
Here is what has worked so far me: "First you need to start the Windows Command Line Prompt, by selecting the Run option in the Start menu, entering 'cmd.exe' into the text dialogue and pressing return. This will launch a DOS window into which you type the following commands, pressing return at the end of each: set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 start devmgmt.msc Device Manager will automatically appear after the second command, and now if you go into its View menu and select 'Show hidden devices' you should see quite a few 'greyed out' items referring to missing hardware." Uninstall all the Dell Axim USB drivers. Then restart the computer and connect the Axim. In my case, it correctly reinstalls the drivers and correctly reconnects.

functionality" on the Axim - Settings-Connections-USB to PC. For several months it worked fine with this box checked, but it no longer works at all with it checked. I have no idea what changed, as I had been using the same ActiveSync and the same ROM A12 for months. Please post if you find a solution, as I also run into syncing problems. For a few weeks now the USB cradle has been sysncing flawlessly. I'm not at all confident in that staying, so I bought a Bluetooth USB key, because I read here that the Bluetooth syncing is more robust. This weekend the Bluetooth quit syncing?? Then after a day it started working again?? No changes. I have had several times when syncing has stopped working. The things I've done that have worked. 1) Uninstall Dell Axim USB drivers from PC (as mentioned above post) and let it automatically reinstall. 2) Remove Activesync from PC through Add/Remove programs then reinstall. This had worked twice before with no other actions. 3) Installed ROM A12 into the Axim, it had quit syncing with ROM A6. I did many things that time and not sure exactly what got it going. But after installing A12 it worked great for a few months. In my case, I have always suspected the PC side. I think the Axim is good, I choose to blame MS ![]()

Activesync is such an annoying piece of software at times. i've not been able to synch properly for a cpl of months now and i've tried literally about everything.
the only thing that has appeared to work is a hard reset each time i want to synch, which is pointless. gd job i have sprite backup tho it's odd how such a little piece of software can cause so many problems. will try a cpl of the suggestions on this thread tomorrow as i haven't done any of them yet. i will def let you know which got me synched again ![]()

cannot connect
could it be my pda failing? i really don't think so, my feeling it is the software and i am really upset with microsoft. they keep referring me to dell. if i have a problem with outlook, will that hinder my sync? besides not getting my emails on my pda. i know how to fix that, but i really really need my files and such sync. does anybody think that if i do a hard reset that it will help? if i do a hard reset how do i back up my files before and restore (or is that possible)? told ya i am a novice. any more ideas out there. I really don't want to pay dell for service. I would rather spend my money on software than paying dell.

Did you follow M$ specific instructions for your firewall/antivirus software (Norton vs Zone Alarm vs McAfee)? If not, go check for those details (on the AS troubleshooting web page).
Yes, if you have problems with Outlook that can cause problems with syncing. Whenver I would attempt to hand-scribble notes on my X50v, they would not sync to the PC, and AS (version 3.8 at the time) would terminate without syncing all my info. I would have to uncheck the option to sync notes in order to sync my data, then go delete the offending note if I wanted notes to sync again (and I would have to type all my notes using a BT keyboard I had paired with my Axim). You might try a detect and repair of the Outlook files (look under the Help menu in Outlook) - make sure to have your product CD available in case it can't find something it is looking for. You might also need to make sure you have all the Office Service Packs and updates from the M$ Office web site; doable if you have a broadband connection, a real pain for those of us still on dial-up! Good luck - I know this can be frustrating. I'll add other ideas if I think of more things.

to everybody that has tried to help me, i want to say thank you.
what i finally figured out after countless nights and wasted days, that i had a bent pin on my dell. my son bent the pin back and wow it works again. i have a Hotsync-Cable and not a cradle. get a cradle. the cable has been a pain since i bought this. i am up and running for now, but will need some hardware repair soon.

Start > Settings > Connections tab > tap on "USB to PC", then uncheck the box that appears.
