This beta is intended for developers, IT professionals, and technology experts to continue or begin their testing of Microsoft ActiveSync and Windows Mobile devices. Before you decide to use this beta, you should feel comfortable with installing operating systems, updating drivers, and general PC troubleshooting. Some risks of using beta software include hardware and software incompatibility and system instability. If you have concerns about installing this beta software on your computer, we encourage you to obtain the current version Microsoft ActiveSync 4.2.

I saw this come out the other day but I've been too afraid to try it. Has anyone tried it? One of their points is that file transfer is improved, any syncing my Axim can be a little slow (I use MobSync, which goes through AS APIs). I've always noticed that Axim versus a direct card reader, the reader is much much faster than PDA and it would be nice to see if they are working towards performance gains on the PDA.

ya

I installed it and find it pretty sweet. No problems have been had since i upgraded from 4.1. I am using WM2003SE so i cant speak for the 05 guys but i like it and it seams a bit faster at transfering files. Only thing is WIfi sync still isnt available.

I have been almost 9 months with no hard reset. Not to shabby.

I do want to experament with a new app setup here again soon though. getting kinda bored of the same o start screen.

WAP looks kinda inviting again.

I know I have dug out this old thread but there is a big problem with ActiveSync versions 4.2 and 4.5 beta that cause loss of internet pass through from PC to the Device. Have a look at the forum here and do the registry modifications. This has had me pulling out my hair for some time and after doing the modifications everything works properly again [Smile]
and this

Didn't help me.
No internet when cradled, no point. /me uninstalls.

I cannot believe how a mature product like active sync can cause so many headaches, every incarnation has it's issues too.

This actually fixed my sync problem for the time being. It had gotten bad, rarely syncing without a soft reset, and even then it didn't work every time. It synced fine after installing this, and I hope it will stay that way for the future.

Yep it fixed my Synch problems with '05 too :)

So far I've experienced no problems at all with this beta version...

That's interesting.

I installed it over the top of whatever I was running before, 4.1 I think.
I wonder if I uninstall/reboot and then try 4.5, that might help.

I have now had 4.5 running for about two weeks. At the office, it has been flawless without any hitches. At home, it usually does not give me any connectivity issues; however, from time to time I have to either reboot the pc or soft reset the Axim. This is far better than what occurred about three weeks ago when 4.2 completely failed on both my office and home pc's, and I was at a loss as to what to do.

When I used AS to load some programmes today I noticed some anomalies. When I checked I found I was using AS 5 beta. I have never downloaded this version, let alone installed it, and no-one has access to my computer, so what's going on?

Incidentally, it has solved none of my problems. I still can't synch and can only stay connected for anything between 30 secs and 2 minutes

To update my previous report, this has stopped working for me. When I plug in the PDA, it says it's connecting, I get the noises and all, and it acts like it has synced. AS tells me that the device is not connected, and no actual syncing occurs. I'm at a loss for what to do now, because soft resetting has not helped the situation, which did used to solve it.

Question - does your "desktop Activesync" tell you "not connected" after roughly 30 seconds, and at the SAME TIME, the axim Activesync says (and stays) "connected" ?

Have been using AS 4.5 Beta 2 with my X51v for almost two weeks now and so far so good. Everything has been going smoothly. Not sure about transfer times though, didn't really measure it but as long as everything is smooth, its fine by me.

I'm currently running AS 4.2 with my axim x51v running A12 rom.

I noticed that my axim AS is trying to sync certain programs that i don't have running currently. But i can not access them to uncheck them on my axim AS.

These programs aren't shows on my PC AS

How do i go about unchecking these programs from my Axim AS so that the sync isn't hung.

As far as syncing goes, i've never had good relations. When i first upgraded from AS 4.1 --> AS 4.2 it synced fine, but soon after i was having trouble... Although i would see information syned w/ outlook on my desktop

But now it's not even doing that.

Please help.
Hopefully i am making sense.

Also if you can advise regarding if i should upgrade the AS to 4.5 beta?

thanks in advance.
