After installing broadcom bluetooth stack, X51V won't activesync on the USB cradle

Hi

I have a X51V with A12 rom and I can activesync to my desktop PC just fine using the cradle.

So yesterday I discovered that there is a broadcom bluetooth stack available for the Axim and I downloaded and installed it. Bluetooth on the axim works but now I can no longer activesync to the desktop pc via usb cradle.

What am I missing here? I have searched the forum but couldn't find any additional information.

Appreciate any feedbacks.

Thank you.

From Activesync on the axim, choose Menu > Connections > When cradled. Make sure it is checked and that it says USB and not Bluetooth. Hope this helps.

Are you also set up to allow usb connections on the pc side. File > Connection Settings? Mine syncs fine, although I prefer BT. I cannot get an IP address however, although my weather programs update. Sorry I've run out of suggestions.

Yep. PC side is also set to use USB connections. Still no luck.

Anyone have any ideas?

Did anyone ever get an answer to this question? I'm having the same problem. I have tried every setting that I can think of.

ActiveSync connects but hangs at "looking for changes".

HELP!

Try Start - Settings - Communications - USB to PC communication and check/uncheck the only thing you have there. It worked for me.

Nope that didn't work at all.

With the Broadcom stack installed, I would get a Remote NDIS error that it could not get an IP. So I gave it an IP from my network and that fixed that error. Still not able to cradle sync.

I checked or unchecked the USB setting as stated. Didn't make a difference either way. Still wouldn't sync. I could connect, I could browse the internet via activesync, I could explore the device. It just would not sync the my PIM information.

I'm not an idiot here, but this is frustrating when it wont sync. You think it is going to then, it just sits at "looking for changes" and then finally erros out. I do notice that without the BT stack it does sync I get a USB connection and Authentication window that appears on the Axim. I don't get this when the BT stack is installed.

Suggestions?

Michael

Hi Joseph,
I've seen several A12 users with this problem
Have you tried disabling advanced network functionality?

Follow klausk instructions.

If this doesn't work, there's another known problem with A12, RNDIS and widcomm hack. If you still need the link for the fix just ask.

Malkavian,

Here's are posts by beemer, one of the author of the widcomm hack, regarding RNDIS and A12.

Still not syncing.

Without the Broadcom BT stack
USB not checked - I can sync
USB checked - I cannot sync

With the Broadcom BT stack with registry changes
USB not check - Unknown USB device appears on PC, please reconnect device.
USB checked - USB connects, no sync, Unable to obtain server assigned IP address error. Entered IP address that will work on my network in Remote NDIS, and did a soft reset. I don't get the IP address error, but still unable to Sync. It hangs at "Looking for changes", it will finally error out with a syncronization error. I can however browse the device via the PC and access the internet via activesync on the device.

On my PC connection for the virtual USB/Network port, I have Microsoft Networks, File and print sharing and TCP/IP installed and checked.

Anything else anyone would like to try. I'm going to leave the BT stack on here over the weekend and watch to see what other tweaks I can try.

Thanks for everyones help.
Michael

UPDATE

I finally got this thing to update. Here is what I had to do. I followed the links the dvmed provided and did the registry changes for the com7 and com 8 thing. I also did the following registry change.

1. Remove the Axim X51V from the cradle.
2. Edit the X51V registry. I used PHM Registry Editor Version 0.7 or any registry editor.
3. Look for the registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\RNDISFN1\Parms\TcpIp
Change
EnableDHCP=1
to
EnableDHCP=0
4. Quit the registry editor using Tools > Exit. I did not soft reset the X51V.
5. After making the above registry change, dock the X51V. I waited more than 30 minutes and still no error. Before the registry change, the error appeared between 1 to 3 minutes after docking the X51V.

This stopped the NDIS error. I had to clear the IP address that I had assigned to the remote NDIS network card. soft reset. Then went back to USB to Computer and UNCHECKED the option.

I put my Axim in the cradle and it sync without a problem and it has internet access via activesync.

I finally go this thing to work. YEAH!

Hi, folks,

I tried to apply these reg settings because I ended up with the RNDIS problem. But it does not allow me to rename the serial8 to serial6. I can change any registry settings, but NOT rename a key... I get the "Error... Access is denied" message with no clue why.

Any hints?

Thanks,

klausk

There is a change under the registry key as well as the key name. I changed the stuff under the key first then changed the name of the key. That worked for me. I also didn't have anything paired to the device at the time, it was a fresh install of the BT stack.

Don't forget, I'm sure your already doing it, make backups. I cannot stress this enough. I have relied on mine a lot through this matter.

Hope this helps.

Michael.

Hi, Michael,

I did a hard reset, uploaded the PHM Registry Editor and the Widcomm BT stack. The BT stack was installed on the "device" followed by a soft reset.

Next I brought up the registry editor and tried to change the name of the key. No luck. It doesn't matter if I change first the value data or try to rename. It results in the error.

The thing is that synching actually works after a soft reset and switching the RNDIS off even without changing the name, but the GPS is all confused because it wants to use one of these ports as well and it works over the BT. The GPS works fine until I start playing with the registry.

Grrr, I'm feeling like I have Windows 3.11 again.... Help would be most appreciated. (see frustration? )

Thanks,
klausk

Follow up:

synching works if I change all settings for Serial8 to look like it's Serial6 even without renaming the key itself.

GPS works if I change all settings for the Serial8 back to the original settings...

Soft reset is required after the registry changes.

Obviously this is not what I'm looking for but it will do for a couple of days until I figure out what to do...
