Lost all contacts

I'm running WinMobile 2003 SE on an Axim 50 with Activesync 4.2. I just "sync'ed" my device and all my contacts very quickly disappeared.

I'd really like to get them back. Had ActiveSync set to manual with "Always replace the item on my device." Why'd the device eat my contacts and can I get them back?

Are your contacts still on your desktop machine? If so, you can force an update...

Unfortunately, it was from my desktop that they disappeared while I watched in horror. They exist neither on the device nor the desktop.

Okay, absolutely no guarantees here... take a look in Outlook's deleted items folder. They *may* have been moved there.
