About a month ago my axim x51v stopped syncing.I soft reset, re-installed active sync but nothing. I then upgraded to activesync 4,2. It synced once and then i kept getting the message " Microsoft activesync doesnt recognize this device.."
So the I installed active sync 4.5 beta, this time it synced a couple of times before i kept getting "doesn't recognize message". After this I tried installing all the different versions of activesync and not even one sync. I would get the green connecting symbol before the message.
I then did a hard reset and this time it synced. it again worked for couple of times although it was unable to sync notes. Everytime i synced it would state that

synchronization cannot be started because you are not able to log on to the network and access information. restart your desktop computer and synchronize again

From then on only a hard reset would let me sync and only a couple of times and always with problems with notes.
