XP Security Updates Broke ActiveSync
Again.

Anyone else this time?

Looks like Linux rather than Vista on my horizon.

It may not be AS itself but your USB ports. The last MS XP security update cut off access to my internal USB ports. The hardware is OK because devices can still get power from the ports, but the OS has no access. I already had 2 USB2 cards, so I just got a 7-port USB2 hub, plugged it into one of the cards, and I was back in business.

I have been using Firefox for months and been very happy. I switched to Thunderbird for email this weekend and it has none of the persistent bugs in Outlooks email system. I've also gone to OpenOffice.org for an office suite, because I'll be darned if I will shell out another fortune to MS for features and changes I don't need or want.

Linux...maybe eventually. No real prejudice against it, but I'm still pretty heavily invested in Windows-compatible software.

Yeah, well we were both pretty heavily invested in Palm software, too, weren't we. I guess Microsoft is no more immune to stupidity than Palm was.

I have been using FireFox and ThunderBird for quite awhile, too.

I don't know about you, but if this crap keeps happening and there is no future to Windows Mobile anyway, I might just go back to Palm.

True enough... I have to get a new 'puter first. My current PC is 6 years old and getting a bit slow for major multi-tasking. Of course, my current one would probably scream with Linux, but the hard drive isn't big enough to hold both OSes. Next one will be, though.

I plugged my PDA into the cradle (I always use a sync cable), and it kicked off right away.

While I am still frustrated with the direction Microsoft and Windows Mobile are taking (or, more correctly, not taking), I'm feeling a bit like Emily Litella from SNL ... Never mind.
