Another solution to the Belkin Bluetooth Dongle/ActiveSync connection Problem

I have read the other threads on this issue for example:
http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...oth+ActiveSync

This was only a temporary fix for the problem of active sync for me. I continued to have drop outs and it was not working consistently. That is the com port stopped working. I also found that the only BT USB Dongles that seem to work are the ones that directly use the windcom drivers for the SP2 BT stack directly. The Belkin Software does not do this. I found another method that has worked perfectly for the Belkin Dongle!!!! This works and it may work for other dongles that are dropping out too.

First I uninstalled all the Belkin software

Then I followed all the instructions on this document:
http://32feet.net/files/folders/1118/download.aspx

Then I followed all the instructions from here starting at step 3
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=3163

The down side is that I miss out on some of the neat stuff in the Belkin software package. On the other hand I have an active sync connection that works. That is what I need right now. If anyone has ideas on how to get both the benefits of the Belkin package and full use of the built in windcom drivers and SP2 BT stack I would love to hear about it.

Update on this approach. The main difficulty now is that I cannot do a bluetooth file transfer. That was very easy with tht Belkin software installed. Belkin software did not cooperate with ActiveSync at all. So, if any one knows how to get the file transfer working with just the built in XP components I would like to hear about that.

This was again a disappointment. It only worked for a day and then I started having problems again. I found a fix however. See my post at http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=143009
