Syncing with vista

Vista banished active sync for its new Mobile device sync center or whatever...

It will only allow me to set up a sync using media player, it WILL NOT sync with outlook at all. i can't ven ask it to set that sync up.

Can anyone on here running the RTM version of vista sync with there axim?

btw, it's a x51v WM5.0
pc is running RTM version of Vista (i'm an msdn member)
Outlook 2007

side note, i've tried installing active sync anyways..... and it doesn't work.

please help.

I'm still running build 5600, but we were given a download for WMDC. I neither see nor remember where the patch came from, but I think it was on a discussion board with Microsoft. It's a Beta version ... so I don't know that it'll work with the RTM version of Vista.

One thing I did note which caused WMDC to stop working was having a recorded memo. Apparently Vista didn't like sync'ing those.

If i look in my Windows Update history I see a "Microsoft Corporation driver update for Dell Axim USB Sync". It installed that automaticly.

I can however go into windows explorer and view files on my axim w/o any problems at all.

When I double click on Windows Mobile Device Center nothing happens at all. Also, when I click on Sync Center all I get is Offline Files.

Anyone else having this problem?

BTW I have a v50v w/WM2003

Found the below at
http://blogs.msdn.com/jasonlan/archi...ble_2100_.aspx

Windows Mobile Device Center replaces Activesync in Vista and provides a central point for setting up partnerships, configuring your Windows Mobile device and managing content.

This new Beta release also supports Windows Mobile 2003 and 5.0 devices (the previous betas only supported Windows Mobile 5.0)

Setting up a Windows Mobile device is really simple with WMDC and through using WMDC for the past few months my two favourite features:

1) The Photo import tool - if you plug in your device you can quickly see how many new photos are on your device and then import them into your My Pictures in a few simple clicks - you can also tag the photos at the same time!

2) The Auto-Fill feature of Windows Media Player so I can sync a portion of my music library to my storage card for listening to on my Windows Mobile device!

Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center Beta 3 for Windows Vista (x86)

Good luck, remember its still a beta.

i also got it to work.. seems that in order for it to update to the correct version you must have the axim on, and in the cradle connected to the pc, then run windows update. It will find an update for WMDC that it won't otherwise. That installed and voila.. syncs like a charm now :)

just thought you guys/gals would like to know.

for those with no luck still

I followed this exactly and it worked for me.

http://blogs.msdn.com/jasonlan/archi...ce-center.aspx

i believe the key to my problem was i did change the connection on the WMM5.0 to serial according to the post.

after i did that, my laptop found the WDC beta 3.0 and drivers for axim. After that, everything worked.

Hope you guys are right as I want to buy a new PC and install Windows Vista & Office 2007 in next couple of months and I'll be PO if I have to go back to Windows XP just to get my MS Mobile Axim X50v running 2003SE to sync.

I just downloaded Microsoft's "Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor 1.0" and ran it on my current XP machine with Activesync 3.8 & then with 4.1 and both times it said:

"This program has compatibility issues and will not work in Windows Vista. For more information, go to the vendor's website."

It also said my current hardware would be good enough ( :rolling: :rolling: :rolling: ) and that my Nero version 6 would not run on Vista .

It's Working....

I'm using Vista Home Premium and was unable to get syched with my x3i but I did as suggested above and d/l'd the update with the Axim in the cradle and it's working fine with a bit of tweaking. Faster than my old version of ActiveSync as well.
