Activesync w/BT - changing serial port to AS
I've read (and tried) just about every suggestion in the various threads for syncing with BT. I was able to get it to work at home on with a Microsoft BT adapter - where I set the AS program to the COM port of the serial BT connection (on the PC). As soon as I pointed the AS program to the port (port 15), the BT service on the WM5 X50v changed to Activesync. It worked like a champ.
So, I come to work to do the same thing (using AS 4.5B in both locations, BTW), and I can only get Serial Port as a service for my PC. The PC is a Sony Vaio laptop with a Toshiba BT adapter. I've read where you should 'rename' the serial port on the PC to 'activesync' - but the Toshiba software is so limited, it will not let me rename anything. Are there any registry hacks on the PC that I can do that would force the service to be renamed at AS? I'm stumped.

Unfriggin believable... I figured I had nothing to lose, so I did a hard reset. Upon restarting, without making any changes, the services listed under my PC (on the X50v) showed activesync.
No idea how, why, or what, but it works. hopefully my little mindless rant will help someone with the same struggle...

Make sure that the com port(s) that are accessible to activesync are 3-9. you can't bt sync with coms 10 or up. its a strange problem. to rename the com ports on the computer go to Control Panel -> System ->Hardware -> Device Manager then scroll down to where it says Ports (Com and LPT) and open that sub-directory. Then re-name one of the com ports that are shown to 3,4,5,6,7,8 or 9.
I have to do this occasionally to keep the syncing working. for some reason my com ports have lives of their own and keep re-naming themselves lol. Good luck.

Thanks for the effort wylo... I have no option for renaming ports under device manager... No matter what they are. I can change port numbers and install new drivers, but renaming them isn't there.
It's ok (for) now. Hopefully my MS gremlins aren't as active as yours, and mine won't change...
