Aximsiteactivesyncicon No Longer Syncing to Exchange

When I finally thought I had all the wrinkles ironed out concerning ActiveSync and my Axim, the Windows Mobile gods decided once again to frown down upon me. Since I received my new Axim x51v, I have been enjoying my new found ability of syncing directly to my company’s Exchange servers. My PDA transformed from a fun novelty to useful instrument that is an integral part of my workday.

Up until around the 24th, I was able to sync with the Exchange servers whenever I placed my Axim on the cradle, every 10 minutes via my phone’s Bluetooth modem, and by Wifi when available. It is such an incredible experience having your most recent e-mails at your finger tips, your calendar updated on the fly, and your contacts immediately added to your Outlook.

About a week ago, my Axim stopped syncing with the Exchange server when using ActiveSync. When I place my PDA on the cradle I receive an error that reads:

The server could not be reached. This can be caused by temporary network conditions.
Support Code: 85002003
ActiveSync will continue on and sync my notes, files, and favorites. It is just the Exchange server that will not work. Interestingly enough, the Exchange sync is not totally broken. I can still sync directly to the servers using my cell phone and using the available wireless. I’m not sure how this works.

Since the problem began, I have done the following in an attempt to fix:
  • Deleted the Exchange server on the PDA and recreated.
  • Deleted the Exchange server on PC and recreated.
  • Deleted the partnership from the PC and PDA and recreated.
  • Reinstalled ActiveSync
  • Reloaded entire computer with new Windows (this was done for other reasons, but was part of the troubleshooting)
  • Recovered PDA from past back-up file that previously was able to sync with Exchange servers (12/21)
  • Hard reset PDA to factory settings and recreated Exchange partnership

None of these items have helped the situation. I still can’t get my PDA to sync to the Exchange servers when cradled. Now I did make another discovery while experimenting – I can no longer surf the web when I am connected via ActiveSync. When I click on PIE, I get the “Cannot Connect” dialog if I do not have Bluetooth on. If I do have Bluetooth on, my PDA will dial and connect via my Sprint cell phone. It is not using the internet connection of ActiveSync at all. This seems like it might be related to the problem, but I can’t get my head around it.

Please help me fellow Aximsiters. I can’t imagine my PDA staying gimped like this.

Ok, so I'm guessing no one has any ideas here. Is anyone else having a similar problem? I'm suspecting the problem isn't actual ActiveSync but with the actual internest connection.

Check to ensure you can connect to the internet via via the USB cable ...

Open up PIE on the x51 and see if you can get to aximsite or some other site using PIE.... if you can't you need to correct this issue and that should resolve the Exchange sync issue as well.

I assume by the desciption above you are able to sync via wifi ... which points the issue to the internet pass-thru using activesync as being the culprit.

It seemed that the internet pass-thru was the problem. I definitely could not even open a web page when I was connect and my weather application was not updated via ActiveSync either; however, everything was doing fine when I was connecting over the air.

Now it gets better... it miraculously healed itself. Just when I was going to really sit down and work on the problem, the Axim started behaving normal again all by itself. It's strange, the problem started out of the blue and then just went away in the same manner about 1 week after it started.

Mad

Well, I got the same problem, but internet access on my axim works, so this is no sollution for me. It worked fine for months, then I had to change my x51v for a refurbished one, and I get no connection to Exchange at all, not by craddle, not by WLAN. I tried installing the SSL-certificate, sync with SSL, without SSL, everything I could even think of, and now I'm running out of ideas.

Well, my problem came back after over a month problem free. It would appear that the PDA is not connecting to the internet when it is in the cradle. This stops my Exchange sync from happening as well as my weather program update. I'm not sure what to do this time around. It sorted itself out last time and just started working again. This is very frustrating because a hard reset does not fix it. It's an on again off again problem. No one seems to know what to make of it.

Well, I guess I'll be doing a lot of syncing by BT during the day since it's not cooperating. Sad really....

I've done a lot of searching and all I get is "The device timed out while waiting to establish a connection with the server." Well, I"ve waited about a week now and nothing. Plus, how come it doesn't time out when I use Wifi or BT to sync? I hate ActiveSync. I wish there was an option...
