Is syncing via wireless Network the same a syncing anywhere you have internet connection?

Is syncing through Exchange Server same as syncing through Outlook Web Access?

I finally got my X51v to sync to our outlook web access anywhere there is a wireless connection I can use. My work has a wireless network and I was wondering if I need to sync to that seperately for immediate "updating" of my outlook? The reson being is if I am at my desk and send an email to myself (not that I talk to myself...simply as a test) I dont see it show up immediately on my device. It will do it if I select "send/receive" or after 5 minutes as set in the settings section. Activesync goes through the steps of "connecting" through what seems like the Internet even when I am in my works Wireless Network range.

Is there some other settings I need to do to maintain syncronization while in the works wireless network? Then when I am out of the Network range I can manually tell it to sync via random WiFi signal, or BT through my phone.
