AS deleting contacts

I have had contacts disappear from my desktop ocasionally for some time now. I have alwayse been suspicious but could not pin it on anything.

I rarely updat contacts on my PDA but do sync them to have them available on the ppc. I also recently upgraded from 4.2 to the beta 4.5 but I'm sure the problem was there in 4.2 as well.

Yesterday several coontacts disappeared and it was right after I synced the pda. Note that I sync only every few weeks but did so as I had just completed changed phone numbers and addresses of several contacts. I had also noticed that several contacts were missing from the PPC. (I have not deleted contacts from the PPC in over a year ... I manage that from the desk top.)

I added a fake contact to the desktop and synced again ... it disappeared!!! I swuitched from "replace item on device" to "replace item on desktop" added another contact and synced again. This time the contact appeared on both PC and PPC. Switched back to "replace item on device" repeated the test and everything worked fine????

I don't have a clue and I'm not certified as crazy yet.

Anyone else losing contacts?

Might seem like a dumb question but...

...could you have the contacts filtered by category. The contacts might be there just "unfiled" or under another category.

I've done this with PhatNotes Desktop and stupidly reloaded the app twice before realizing it.

No. I checked filters are off and I also tried different views.

Have you showered recently? Sorry, my attempt at humor. Seriously, have you checked under ActiveSync Options Settings for the Contacts to be sure you do not have some of the categories unchecked?

AS Options settings is greyed out and unresponsive when contacts are highlighted. It was that way for the 4.2 version as well. Yes I do have some catgories and yes the categories apear in my outlook.

For instance I have personal category contacts in my PC and PPC outlook and all of them did not disappear. I do not use the private option. Again filter is set to off on the outlook PC.

Is there a way of selecting contacts for sync by type in AS?

I have not observed any loss of contacts in the last 6 or so syncs. It does not seem to be hapening now. However, I'm sure it hapened before and I was able to recreate it for a while. It's as though changing the settings resolved the issue.

However. I'm still concerned that the problem will return in the future. Yes I have and will keep a backup copy of contacts!

You can only set those options while the Ax is disconnected, that's why they are greyed out. Disconnect the device and then set the options.
