Would syncing as a guest on everything solve alot of these partnership issues?

I'm not sure what partnership issues you are referring to, but you can't synchronized to a desktop as a guest. In other words, the only way to synchronize is to create a partnership with the desktop (at least if you're using ActiveSync). The idea behind a guest connection is simply to allow the transfer of files between the PPC and the desktop PC. Without a partnership, if a file is changed in one location that change is not reflected in the other and you have to:
1. know yourself which is the most up to date and
2. manually copy it to the other location.
