Exchange Server ???
What is the purpose of syncing to a server? Can some one tell me (in short words if possible) if they use exchange server to sync and the advantage?
I'm reading on this and thinking about using a server instead of syncing to my laptop. All of this is new to me so I'm not sure if I'm going in the right direction!!! Thanks in advance!

Typically the advantages are things like the comfort of knowing your mailbox / calendar data etc are A) held on a more powerful and robust machine and B) that machine is backed up regularly - so your data is safer and is recoverable. Exchange / mail servers also offer you sharing benefits - sharing your calendar data with others, or making use of a corporate Global Address List, and so on.

You can sync your ppc with exchange server remotely - using wifi or gprs/3G/Edge. The benefit is that you can do it from everywhere.
I can check my e-mail sitting in the café using wifi if they have access point, or from the beach using my bluetooth phone. I love it.

I never took the time to figure out what it is, is it supplied by the company or is it using company servers? Is it with MS Office Pro 2003? can I base it on my desktop/laptop?
If I can get inside my Outlook from outside my Wi-Fi router, that'd be just dandy..

Exchange is a fairly heavyweight server based application.., its not something that indiviuals normally dabble with (which is reflected in the price)

I appreciate everyone's response. I have a better understanding now. I was thinking that Exchange was something that I (myself) can set up for myself and reap the benefits. I see that it is a server based which mean....more corporations and businesses use. Am I correct in this?
I wouldnt want to go through the hassle of trying create something like this just for me....that would be a waste of money. I can see that the benefits is creamy though! Are there alot of people who use Exchange server? If so, is it through your business? Thanks everyone for the insight! ![]()

The other typical way to get all (or at least most) of the server-side benefits without you having to own or know how to handle a server, is to use one of the 'Hosted' exchange services - like Mail2Web, 4Smartphone, and others that are out there. These range from free to relatively inexpensive for most 'personal' level setups and may well be worth researching for you ....
