Just been for my morning walk in the
Glyn Ceiriog Valley (the most beautiful place on earth) and spent a couple of hours thinking about the problems we seem to have with ActiveSync (yes, I know that I am sad

): it strikes me that I have problems when;
- I have played around with my Today Screen on the Axim (e.g. moved items or added icons in Spb Plus)
- I've had a problem with TomTom (also on my Today Screen)
- Firewall updates or security patches
Fortunately a simple soft reset usually resolves my problems; however, occassionally I need to perform a hard reset to get things back to normal. Notwithstanding the ease with which I can resume normal operations, the one common factor (ignoring changes to the security protocols on the pc) is changes or problems with the Today Screen.
I don't normally restore from a backup (unless I'm away from home) - I usually add applications back to the Axim one-by-one in order to avoid restoring a
problem: as my files are all on a CF card, this is not a problem.
If I was experiencing these difficulties I would ask myself if I had mad any changes to the Axim or pc that might result in the problem (added a new application, changed a .tsk file, updated my pc security or moved items on the Today Screen). If I couldn't identify a potential culprit I would immediately suspect any Today plugins and remove them.
Thereafter I would continue to remove applications (to the factory state (that is, application free and
not information free) if necessary) in an attempt to sync the Axim. If this didn't work I would soft reset and then hard reset. If all of this fails, I have effectively ruled out my device as the problem (I have never upgraded my ROM so it isn't a consideration for me but it might be for others who have) and logically it must be a pc issue. I accept that there is an element of risk here: if you can't connect to the pc, restoring the device becomes a problem. Therefore, you should consider an alternative method of backing up the device before attempting this process (Sprite is the obvious choice).
ActiveSync does work (for me anyway) so if the above procedure has failed to restore the link, the problem
must be a pc issue and my immediate suspicion would be the firewall! However, shortage of memory (on either the pc or Axim) can prevent syncing and there are a number of other things to check (listed elsewhere in this thread).
That's the only additional advice that I can offer. Sorry Guys, I seem to have failed to resolve your problem but a structured and logical approach to the issue seems the most likely way to identify the missing link.
