I have a couple of interrelated questions for you experts that hopefully will help me avoid some potentially dumb actions:

I have a new Axim X51v with activesync 4.1 CD that I am considering syncing with a laptop that already has AS 3.8 installed and working fine with an Axim X5. After reviewing the past posts on this forum, I see some apparently conflicting advice. I really appreciate your collective wisdom on the following questions:

1. The easiest approach would be to use the installed AS 3.8 with the Axim x51v. Will this work? If no, why ...?

2. Will installing AS 4.1 on the laptop overwrite AS 3.8 or will AS 4.1 be installed as a separate application?

3. Should AS 3.8 be uninstalled from the laptop before installing AS 4.1?

4. If AS 4.1 is installed, will the Axim X5 work with this version?

5. Can I assume that both Axims will be able to sync with the laptop as long as each Axim has a different device name?

Welcome to Aximsite, ScrubJay!

Since WM5 requires ActiveSync 4.x, you will not be able to use ActiveSync3.8 with your X51v. However, version 4.x should work with both your devices. And yes, you should be able to sync both Axims on the same laptop as long as they have different device names.

No, because Microsoft made 4.x Activesync a requirement for WM5. They took out the sync by wifi, database sync and font conversion.

Not sure, it should overwrite, but I remember reading to uninstall old version before installing new one.

I believe so. That is what I have done.

Yes, it will work, with the changes listed in answer to number 1. (I also have an X5)
