Activesync 4.5 upgrade
I downloaded the activesync 4.5 cab from the Microsoft mobile site. Followed the instructions and everything ran fine... until I cradled (is this a word?) my Axim x51.
For some reason activesync recognized that the device was synching with a pc, but did not realize it was this very pc. So it went on trying to have me do a new connection setting. I eventually did thinking it would allow me to delete this guy or even replace it... but to no avail. If I delete the old connection I need to resync all using the new connection (that was painfull with a contact list of over 1000 entries). What gives? M.P.

Difficult to say exactly what's going on; I assume that you have had some type of error message? Can you let us know what it said?
Also, check that the upgrade is allowed by your firewall and a soft reset on the Axim sometimes has the desired result. You should avoid deleting the original partnership, particularly if you have a current backup stored.

I had some problems installing 4.5 "final" over 4.5b2. The installation wouldn't recognize my 2 partnerships (x50v and x51v) that I was syncing with my laptop. Even though it is the same machine 4.5b2 had been installed on. It treated the laptop as a new installation and called it Windows PC2. It also added a sync with an Exchange Server. When I ran the 1st sync, AS renamed my x51v as the generic pocket pc (don't remember the exact name). Took me a while to figure it all out. I had to delete the x51v's partnership (saved the "device_name" files folder when asked). Deleted the AS Exchange Server entry and renamed the AS Windows PC2 to Windows PC. Then I re-named the x51v back to the correct name and re-created the x51v partnership. Once I got the x51v/AS 4.5 corrected, the x50v synced fine. Thanks Microsoft.

You are right... it was a partnership issue. After creating the new partnership (windows pc2) I deleted both partnerships (windows pc1 and windows pc2) keeping only the dummy partnership for the activesync hack. The system then re-synced the partnerships without issues.
It actually fixed two problems I had, but had not addressed: Favorites and Splashid (trial) were not synching. Activesync 4.5 looks good for me... after 6 hours.
