Ok, I just got an Axim x51 (just arrived today!) and I was playing around with it, put some movies on it, generally had ActiveSync working fine.

I took a break and was playing Bubble Breaker and flipping through the device when message popped up saying something about ActiveSync (I didnt really read it but I think it had an "Activate" button"), not thinking I just hit the OK button, and got back to Bubble Breaker.

I went back to my computer and put my Axim in its dock, and it isnt connecting anymore.

Looking at recently used programs there was a thing called "Modem Link" and it has a status of "Inactive" I hit activate and get this message: "Unsupported or unavailable connection. Verify that your phone supports the selected connection and that the connection is not already in use by ActiveSync or another application"

What on earth did I change? How can I fix it?

Have you tried a soft reset (push stylus into reset hole at the back)?

check your connection settings and also your Bluetooth settings, if you have somehow added a modem and don't actually have one, or you have added a BT modem without Knowing it, you should be able to delete the settings.

Thanks for the replies.

When I got up this morning it was syncing fine, and when I got home from work, it was still fine, now, its starting to act up again.

The soft reset didnt do anything (I just tried it)

Also, I have bluetooth disabled, my wireless is disabled also and it still is not syncing...

I went into the "Modem Link" and they are all inactive (IR, USB, and Serial)

I am thinking there is a possiblity it might be my computer, so I am going to do a cold restart on it.

I've regularly had problems with synching but if leave it alone in the craddle eventualy it synchs. Also after it synchs it goes through the hole re-synch process about every 5 mins. I don't know what it is, I just gave up since it does eventually synch. Plus I transfer files by swaping out the SD card to my PC, its usually faster. I hope you get an answer or solve it.

well, as I was typing out my last post I was searching my brain to think of what I had done to get it to sync again. Every night I turn off my computer, and that was the only thing I had not tried. So I did a cold startup (shutdown for about a minute, then started it back up) and Viola! Sync works.

I am not sure what is up, but I think it has something to do with my computer not dropping the connection to my Axim when I pull it out of the cradle.

AS is notorious for these sorts of problems, whack it in the cradle, sinks fine , pullit out, AS disconnects, put it back in AS does not recognise device. Not a problem just a bug. What version AS are you using?
