Oh come on ... let's not generalize. I've got 2 Dell systems - my Dimension E520 and my X50 and they're both excellent, not only from a hardware standpoint but from functionality, too. Just making blanket statements like that makes you look stupid.

I also had a lot of problems ActiveSync. Kills batteries, etc...

One of the problems is that it's not easy to kill the process. I wrote a simple utility to kill ActiveSync and close. Give it a try, just copy the exe to the pda and run it.

( Remove the "_" underline characters in the following link to make the download work...)

It can't be that hard to get it right MICROSOFT. These constant problems have made me rethink on whether I want to even bother with an MS Phone!!!

I hated my x51v until ROM 12 and AS 4.5. Now it works flawlessly. I hope I haven't just jinxed myself.

I sync my x50v using BT and laptop and AS 4.5 and have no problems at all! I did notice on Axim soft reset that AS sync connection option reverts back to "USB" from pre soft reset option of "activesync using BT" option.

I think there must be alot of people who are not setting up AS properly. Why are there so many with problems then there are so many with no problems. I use x50v with AS 4.5 and BT with no problems at all.

ACTIVESYNC DOES NOT WORK Folks

I do not know what planet I am living because all versions of activesync 3.78, 4.1, 4.2 and 4.5 do not sync my contacts in Outlook 2007. I have tried with and without firewalls and virus protections.
It just does not work. My Axim x51 is now a useless piece of junk unless someone can help.
Phil
p.s. I have doe the load and reload....hard reset and soft reset and the new partership routine. Office 2007 with Outlook 2007 is fabulous, but the activsync is not.

I have to disagree. I had it working fine for quite a while, then w/out warning it started to flake out, launching multiple times on the Ax during a single sync, using BT or a cable/cradle. I downloaded a demo of Sync2 but have not installed it yet. It allegedly works independently of AS. I'll let you know.

Must have Activesync 4.1 or newer to sync Windows Mobile 5. Personally, I would go with 4.2 or 4.5, the newest ones.

If you have latest ROM, under Settings-Connections-USB to PC check or uncheck Enable advanced network functionality.

THINGS TO TRY:

Run the Diagnostics CD under the help section in Outlook 2007. Try with Axim unconnected, then connect Axim; if that doesn't work, try with Axim connected, run diagnostic, then disconnect and reconnect Axim.

Attach your Pocket PC and run Windows Update. If your device is compatible it will offer to install Windows Mobile Device Center. (This may be for Vista only, don't know). EDIT: IT IS ONLY FOR VISTA.

Maybe there is some documentation within Outlook? If you have the Business Contact Manager, the below link may help.

Hope you get it worked out.
