I am SOOO sick of Activesysnc!!!
the topic headline says it all. I can get my Axim to sync almost 3 out of 4 times I try. With such a faulty program it is a wonder that SOMEBODY out there hasn't developed a cheap or free alternative. In 3 years, i have NEVER had a problem with my palm. It can't be that hard to get it right MICROSOFT. These constant problems have made me rethink on whether I want to even bother with an MS Phone!!!

I guess I'm one of the Lucky ones. I sync 3 different devices on four different computers using cable, BT and cradle. The only problems I have are that you sometimes need to take the ax out of the cradle and put it back and sometimes BT acts up a bit. All in all, apart from it being slow it does what it needs to do for me.

Odd ... I've been using ActiveSync for 5 years (in one version or another with my PPC's) and I've never had a problem. I've used it on at least 4 different PC's with 3 different PPC's and never a hiccup on any of them.

I'm lucky too, I have never had a problem with Activesync. Just a thought though, have you enable USB connection, so that the Activesync doesn't act like a server, I know that screws some people up. I still use you cradle, but ActiveSync acts just like Palm did when doing a USB Sync. I am a former Palm owner too, I know how easy that was. Give it a try if you haven't already. (That option is found on the PC Active sync screen under Tools-Options and if you ROM vers A12 on your Axim, go to Settings-Connections and you will see a something called USB to PC, open that and uncheck Enable advanced network funtionality.

Activesync is one of the biggest thorns in my side when it comes to working with technology. Actually synching (cradled) is a hit and miss endeavour for me. It is slow and very touchy. Thankfully, a soft reset of my PDA usually allows me to synch, but that should not be a requirement for using my PDA. I wonder why some people have no problems and others have nothing but. Is the problem on the PC or the PPC side? We may never know...

ActiveSync will schedule it's self to f*** at least once every 2 weeks. but I only need it for new apps that "have to" use it and mobipocket which I am replacing with mdigger soon enough. Plus I send dbk backups every sunday night to the desktop via BT Sync.

I can only imagine how long it takes, luckily I'm sleeping when it does...

Other than that I let emoze sync all my PIM info with outlook.

No problems here. I only allow it to Sync once ever morning, then simply unplug the USB cable the rest of the day. works fine.

I feel your pain. AS was working fine for me for almost 2 years, then, without reason it started to act up. Now for some reason, the Ax launches multiple syncs upon USB or BT connections and I cannot stop it.

I don't have problem with Active Sync 80% of the time.
There was one time where it will no longer sync with my home pc...
I fixed it by "hard-reset" the pc.
With these communication device, there are a lot of settings that need to be watch out for. com port, firewall, outlook settings.....
But overall, I've been lucky too.

ActiveSync 3.71 with my Axim X30 was solid. It was a definite improvement over the Palm HotSync I used to have.

However, ActiveSync 4.x seems to be a step backwards. Apart from its slowness the only issue I see that annoys me is not being able to sync via USB to a port replicator or docking station. BT is a reasonable work-around, but it just seems like that is an unnecessary step that I should have to take.

Most of the time activesynch is fine (i.e. I've just double clicked the activesync shortcut in the widcomm BT manager, the Ax has connected and synchronised perfectly ) and yet, sometimes it can be a major pain.

Last week I had to rebuild my AX due to a problem , I spent over an hour trying to get it to AS via BT - nothing - AS just would not find the AX (even though it was opening the correct BT port s etc.). I re-started the PC and, bingo, it worked perfectly, and has done since. Why ?????????????????????

This is the major part of my problem with AS. You can't really trouble shoot the problem properly. Releasing something so buggy, and then not providing info, and tools to fix it

Got any programs that are installed that disable the USB connection?

I've got a certain program installed on the X5 that I've owned since 03, and the only time I've had a problem with AS is when I've got that certain prog running (as it disables the USB connection).

If I close the program before cradling, everything is honky dorey......

Take a close look
